*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Think I've done my lower back in.... Need to spend the night resting it and see how it is this weekend. After ignoring mobility work for so long, looks like imma have to Get it incorporated.

120kg squats, 6/6/6/3, failed last set, stood up, fine. Racked plates, fine. Walked across the room, couldn't move. Can't take a deep breath as its adding pressure! Feels like its muscular as I can move my legs freely until my back gets involved. Hope to God it is.

Is it sharp instant pain that goes away, or more of an ache that is persistent with movement and generally more intense after getting up from sitting a while?

My lower back is blitzed from deadlifts this morning!

Depends on your power/explosive strength and how tall you are and how long your legs are! Doesn't help you does it?! :p

Start off on 25" and work your way up. Try not to swing back or force your body to over compensate. 35" is a good height to be achieving. Anything over 40" I'd consider very good.

It's also a balance between ensuring your leg power is doing the work rather than just hip flexibility. They're fantastic for explosive leg power development, counter-current movement, elastic spring effect of your muscles in your legs (full contraction to full extension), it's a fairly decent cardio/metabolic exercise, dynamic core stability, minimal eccentric loading of the lower extremities upon landing (i.e. instead of jumping up and down from height). Lastly, they look ****ing cool when you jump onto a high box! :D

You want to make sure you don't rock your body back and really focus on body position when you start. i.e. as if preparing a deadlift, or at the bottom of a squat - I know they're two different body positions but it's about developing that explosive capability from the bottom position.

:X

Hope it's okay man. Last thing you want is the constant dull pain I have, it's a right tard :D

Defo get on the mobility work though, will help no end.

Thank you :) thinking of doing some at home as the gym isn't equipped and I can mock something up here, mainly to help with getting out of the hole on squats and the start of deadlifts, I want to be more explosive.

damn my legs feel shot after this evening amazing what a few weeks off and a big more body weight can do to you. roll on tomorrow morning and the doms :D

Not sure if I should ask this here or the mobility thread, I will go here for a start.

Static stretching, does it have it's place before working out or should we stick to dynamic stretching to open up joints etc?

down to 87kg this morning, oh how I do love carb depletion weeks! Feel like crap some days, but most of the time its ok... Once im back lifting, I might actually try training without being on a forever cut and get some good gains hopefully.

Going to go to a large gym tomorrow where a friend is doing a pose down of all the guys/girls he is training for a show in April. Me and a few guys from the gym though it would be fun so we are going to go train then maybe join in on a little posing and learn some moves :D

Dynamic stretching and soft tissue work pre-workout only.

For me, the definition of "dynamic" is anything you do to loosen you up to your normal range.
Why can't I look like this? :(

Cheers will have a look, lot of muscle memory going on at the moment though so I'm gaining strength real quick whilst dropping the fat. Not sure best way to do it though, want to be at <10% bf by June but with as much muscle as possible obviously.
