*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Lowered the reps & upped the weights for the front squats, damn it burns!.

Front squats (5,5,8) (Main)
Back squats (8,8,8)
Leg Press (8,8,8)
Walking lunges (with DB) (20,20,20)
Fitball drag (10,10,10)

Not going to be able to walk by the morning... thank god it's shoulders tomorrow!.

Yes.

Although don't think your shoulders has it that easy if your front squats were nice and upright. :D

Sounding like a plum whats the fitball drag?
I just checked online & can't find it (probly called something different).

So I thought it was a perfect opportunity to use my leap motion controller finger pointy draw system to draw a life-like demonstration :D, but that's also wrong - as you have your back arched to put more pressure on your core, it's a bit crap tbh & only doing it because I had so much extra time in the gym after doing the rest.

Thanks for the support guys.

For anyone interested in strongman I will put together a write up for Britains and Worlds strongest man 105KG as soon as I get the chance (it will be in my training log)

Worlds will also be shown on eurosport (I believe its the 7th November)

Rats. Explain this to me like I'm a 5 year old....

Why can I leg press 260kg 5 x 5 but struggle to squat 80kg 5x5?

The same reason why most people only do quarter squats in the gym - anything resembling a full squat is far more demanding of your whole body than just sandwiching yourself between a seat and a metal plate that moves along a single fixed plane of movement. Leg strength (or lack of) is generally down the bottom of the list of reasons people will fail a squat.

i could max out the machine at our gym when i started.. and couldn't squat 40kg properly! :)

now i can do 120 but can't max out the machine anymore?! lols.

Gents

Been told by the girlfriend she is happy for me to use the attached garage as a place for me to trien, rather than monthly gym fees and buy my own kit, use to lift weights for 3 years prior to doing the London marathon this year then training for that took over my life.

Just want so tone, definition and a bit of size... Are there any good places for multi gyms second hand say? Or should I concentrate on a bench, pull up and dip bar for the wall and squat rack?

Your advice would be gratefully received, this way I can train in the morning before work

Not the word 'tone'! Please, no more! :(

Power cage, bench, Olympic bar, Olympic plates and some DUMBELL handles.

Nothing else required. :)

Depends how much you want to spend in all honesty. I know LiE and Mrthingy have recently brought stuff for home gym use.

Sadly you won't get a lot for that.

You could potentially get a cheap Marcy squat rack, another cheap adjustable bench and some weights (maybe 100kg or something) but you would soon max that out.
