Soo jelly. Could only wish to be involved on that sort of thing and have those coaches :p

Well, give up every aspect of your life from the age of 8 (family, friends, education), take two weeks out every year and give what remains of your life and soul the the State.

Happy with that deal? :)

This is why Chinese lifters have a nasty habit of dominating their categories...

Very slow progress but almost got my previous 1RM deadlift (back in April; 165kg) for 3x3.
Got 3, 3, 2, but I was right at the top of the 3rd rep, just couldn't pull it in. Pretty much same weight at ~78kg so at least it's progress.
I'll probably try for a new 1RM mid December, 180kg hopefully.

Apparently that squat was '89%' - as his max is 310kg - as there's no reason to go over 90% in the build up. Makes you laugh.

What do we think of the 56kg'ers? The Chinese guy hit a new snatch WR:

But lost out on the gold overall to the manlet prince of North Korean peace, Om Yun Chol, whose WR c'n'j is causing a lot debate online since most people think it shouldn't have stood:

It seems like he got the 3 white lights a little hastily to me. Also lol@how he's basically 80% torso, 10% arms and 10% legs.

It's very impressive but (and this may be my lack of knowledge showing) it doesn't look as if he's stabilised the lift properly before he drops it again which I'd thought would be a prerequisite for a legitimate lift. I presume it was acknowledged by the adjudicators hence his actions but it does look a little bit early to give that.

The judges for last year's Commonwealth Games were much, much harsher than the WWC ones, but I think there is a bit of excitement about chasing world records and white-lighting illegal lifts...

Can you elaborate? Pretend I haven't seen any footage :p

I'm sure you know this! I'm not sure of the precise wording, but essentially the jerk has to be one smooth motion with the arms and you can't jerk + press out the weight overhead, even if it's only an inch or something in order to have the arms fully extended. Sometimes with WR lifts it seems the occasion or just turning a blind eye means lifts get given when any other time they'd get red-lighted. I can't remember seeing it myself but last year some people said that the bananas session with the 105kg's where Ilya had to break the WR twice to win had a bit of dodgy pressing action which went unnoticed, intentionally or otherwise.

Yes that's pretty much it - clean and jerk, not clean and press (which used to be an actual competition lift in a bygone era). You sometimes see lifters whose elbows look slightly bent when they're fully extended but that's just how they're built - seems more common with the women than the men - and as long as the weight is held steadily overhead (which you probably couldn't do if you weren't locked out) it's okay.

Another one from the platform; jerk recovery ftw in the women's -48kg's. Won her gold. A lot of ambitious clean and jerk attempts in that weight class, apparently.

Only 17 as well. All that shouting is her team egging her on.
