Apparently dips and tricep pushdowns with the bar help with the elbow issue on skullcrushers but not sure if it's broscience as i do both regularly yet had the clicking on my right elbow this week.I just go lighter weight on them but more reps and at an angle for good effect.

Them along with CGBP are my main tri exercises and have served me well so I've just never bothered going back to skull crushers so they may well help.

Thoughts on getting the missus to do SL5x5?

She's been mainly a cardio bunny for the last 4 years, slowly transitioning her into doing more weights than cardio over the last 12 months.

She's seen the slight progress and changes in my body i'm getting on SL5x5 and wants to give it a try. She'd be eating at a 10-15% deficit so no risk of getting all big and bulky ;)

I don't see any reason why she shouldn't do it, might need to invest in some 0.25/0.5KG micro plates though.

I don't do stronglifts so can't really comment on that, but if she's looking to start doing a more weight based programme then I'd definitely encourage her... I'm not sure assuming she'll need micro plates is the best way to go about that though ;)

One thing I would say is that depending on your gym (or at least the type of people that use it) it can be really intimidating when you start lifting as a girl so make sure that doesn't discourage her because she'll soon feel like she belongs.

I think the biggest thing was she used to absolutely hate her legs and would cover them pretty much all the time, she now loves how they look and will use any excuse to get them out.

I'm gutted my missus can already go a 70KG barbell squat with good form and weighs about 62-65KG herself.

LOL...I was thinking about the micro plates more for OHP which i've just stalled on at 42.5KG after 6/7 weeks. Think she'll struggle soon on that.

She's been doing some weights (squats, some bench work) in her gym for a while and gets a lot of attitude and negativity off guys. She's tough and pretends it doesn't bother her but I know it gets her down.

However, with SL5x5, she'd be doing it with me in my garage as I have all the gear since about 2 months back.

I have to say that I'm enjoying the current set of active logs - mostly normally strong people doing normal weights. None of this LiE bane back or icecold paused deadlifting Chuck Norris' Hummer :)

Do guys really do this? Sigh, they need to grow a pair

Randomly, in my experience it's some of the guys who lift more than I could ever hope to lift that seem to be the most outwardly unwelcoming and hostile. I could understand it a little bit more if it was a guy who felt like he was being 'shown up' but it never seems to be.

The "bigger" guys are just super-focussed on 3 scoops, and watching a lady lift is very, very distracting. :D :o

Surely I'm not the only one who finds that? :(

I suffer from this, very easily distracted, especially when the skin tight lycra trousers are broken out, and the tight vest tops.
What were we talking about again?

When my missus first told me about the negativity, I thought it was in her head.

After a few weeks I went along to the gym and kept away from her and did my own thing but watched as she worked out. It was the 20-something bro's just milling around and chatting that seemed to have the issue. They'd just stand and watch, make comments, laugh when she struggled a little, just generally being idiots.

I noticed most of the older experienced members who were solo working out to be the most friendly towards her, offering her spots in some occasions. Ulterior motives maybe ;)

Worth pointing out she's a Virgin Active member, of all the gyms i've been to, this chain attracts the biggest idiots.

TBH, I'd suggest that most chain/commercial gyms are generallly stocked by people that don't actually know what they're doing or have the wrong attitude (which is why they all do side bends, cardio, smith work, etc.

The most "intimidating" gyms - i.e. those traditionally viewed as "hardcore" - probably have more people that actually care about lifting and what they're doing... and helping others do the same.

You'll probably find this behaviour isn't exclusive to her because she's female they probably do it to everyone, I've had the same when I used to use the local puregym it was full of your classic asian rudebois just stood around sneering at everyone rather than actually doing any lifting.

I'm horrendous for looking at attractive girls at the gym. Damn tight lycra shorts. Although I'd never laugh if I saw them struggling etc. think they need to grow up!

Started my cut last week, dropped loads of what I'm guessing is water weight and my strength is down a canny bit. But I just want to see abs for the first time in my life! :o

Just before I bought my home gym equipment, I started at a "proper" free weights only gym, all manor of folks in there from beginners to huge guys juicing.

What I noticed is that vritually each and every one of them (it was never really busy, 10 peeps at most at the same time) would offer advice, help spot, always open for a chat and not just as an excuse to talk about their gainz.

It was refreshing tbh, shame most people will avoid and be intimidated by these gyms.

Last time I seen a hot girl in my gym I was distracted at her bloody awful swing up pull ups.

When in that aussie gym over the summer it was a whole kind of different distraction though. Gains everywhere, could not fail! Also got told my deadlifts were good by some female aussie crossfitter :(

Not sure if good, or if typical crossfit technique :/

Massive bro science.

Almost certainly an issue with shoulder health/mobility. Test your lat mobility.
