Durr I've found plenty of tools to get a hypothetical 1RM from x reps but nothing to suggest where to start if I want to add 5x5 to my workout 3 days/week. I'm currently at 110/120/70/60 for the squat/deadlifts/bench/ohp 1rm, any suggestions where to start for my weights? I don't see the point going back sets of 30kg or something when I can work on gainz now... I was going to go 80-85% for the big three but no idea where to go with the rows and that seems pretty hard for sets of OHP, I can always deload again though so...

I wouldn't go 5x5 SL at your level - another vote for 531 as it is easy to follow and gives nice periodicity to gainz.

What do you guys normally have for breakfast? I’ve got all my meals down to a tea but am struggling with brekfast..

So far I’ve only got:

Scrambled eggs and whole grain bread
Or
Porridge oats and semi skimmed milk…

Any advice?

This is not for everyone... but this is generally what I have.

Smoked Mackerel, with either some poached eggs, or scrambled eggs + chillis, followed by either 50g proats with various mixed nuts and berries, or 50g oats in porridge format again with lots of berries and mixed nuts, or with quark, and again some berries and nuts! :p

Comes to nearly 1000 cals depending on portion sizes.

Any of you guys every have problems with your missus complaining about you getting too big? I mentioned this before, every time I start to put on weight my wife complains about me getting too big and being "massive" even though I am puny and can only bench like 70kg. I only weigh 76kg at 178cm(167lbs 5'10"). I've explained all the science of bulking and cutting but she still moans at me.

I just finished a 2 month cut a month ago where I got down to 72kg and she was saying I was too thin. I've told her that now I need to put on weight which will be muscle and fat so that when I lose the fat I will have some muscle underneath and won't look skinny.

Don't know what else I can tell her, it's quite annoying/disheartening to hear after all the effort I put in at gym.

I have the opposite. I say I'm a massive beast that needs to lose weight and the fiancé says I'm fine as I am... (The 10kg of overhang does have to go to be fair. Also the squatting booty/thigh combination took out another pair of work trousers today. :o)

But at the same time if I'm having a stretch in bed and in the process flexing some gunnage she'll grab hold and voice her appreciation for said gunnage.

Plus I just tell her if it was that easy to get big everybody would be doing it.

I'm really struggling to get my head around what/how much food to eat.

I've read the bit that tells you how many calories you need and say +/- 10% or some. But for instance if I was trying to loose weight (a bit) and build muscle and my BMR is 1600 in a day what does that consider?

I mean last night in the space of 1.5 hours I used over 1000 calories and probably a lot more over the next 30 mins, is that 1600 then enough?

lol, yeah some women love muscles/veins but unfortunately my wife just wants me to be slim, like swimmer physique.

She keeps complaining about the veins in my arms too, like I will just be standing there and she will say "Eww look at your arms". Feelsbadman :(

Ironically this fit bird I worked with until recently loved my physique and veiny arms and kept trying to seduce me lol (literally was trying to drag me away with her at some drinks and was telling me to **** her from behind!).

Bro you're doing this all wrong!

Lack of appreciation means it's time for an upgrade. :D

haha! Mate, you have no idea what I endured during the year I worked with this girl. She was one of the hottest birds in our building, proper head-turner (literally, as we walked around the streets guys would turn and look at her and make comments). When we went to bars random guys would constantly come up and start chatting her up, and even as we left guys would try to grab her like zombies! :D She kept sending me filthy texts and telling me she wants to bang me, so I had to go no contact on her recently and block her.

Sadly wifey is completely turned off by the bodybuilder look.

I've never had any complaints from my other halves then again I've never been that much smaller that they'd notice a difference!

Wife or wifey? If wifey, you can change her. If wife, you can change her. At the very least point out that it's not just about what she wants and that it's about how yo want to look and how you want to feel too (I don't actually recommend pointing anything out as we all know how that will go...).

Hehe, I mean wife, wifey is just diminutive :D. I told her already I am sick of just being weak/average and want to improve myself, and I enjoy lifting heavier and heavier weight but she can't seem to understand the male mindset of striving for improvement and being fully committed to something.

So far I have resisted making similar comments about her. Imagine the shoe was on the other foot and I was telling her she was too fat. She would go mental! And I am not even fat, when I tell people what she says they always laugh and say WTF I am not big at all, don't even look like I lift with a shirt on (and 76kg, come on, I am slimmer than most guys I work with).

Going to speak to a personal trainer tomorrow to get me on the right steps as I feel completely lost at the gym. Been doing an hour of cardio stuff and really enjoy rowing but not touched any weights yet

I've had a little bit of a similar experience here. I've commented to my wife recently that one of the suits I've only recently bought now feeling a little tight around the shoulders. Her reaction was to try to tell me to give up training because it would cost money to replace more clothes and she really doesn't like muscly men. I'm not even muscly yet. I firmly said i'd be carrying on because I like how I feel and look now.

I wonder what her reaction would be if you said something similar about a change in her physique.

Lol.....wow.

I think my gf has said 'I don't want you looking like Arnold' then in the next sentence said shed like some abs showing...but doesn't want me looking like a powerlifter also....hah. Mind you, I was a skinny wreck when we first met, so I've changed somewhat :p

Just tell them you enjoy doing what you are doing, how someone can be negative towards you trying to be more healthy is beyond me, unless its for another reason I.e you're spending too much time away...

I suspect it might be that she feels more secure if I didn't look good. She's very recently taken up jogging at night and it might be because she feels left behind now that I'm making progress. If I didn't exercise then she may not feel the need to.

I'm not stopping now though. After 13 months the difference is noticable and I can't throw all that effort away.
