I thought I squatted with a relatively wide stance, but that lot make me look like my feet are together!

Joined the gym for the first time ever today. Something I've always wanted to get into but always put it off for some reason.

First things first is get my diet sorted as its horrendous :(

I'm looking to build muscle, my body fat percentage was 23%. This seemed quite high to me at first as I'd class myself as a skinny ****** lol.

I've been advised not to split anything up and just work everything in one day (for now)

Anyone have tips regarding diet? Been reading a lot and some of the terms are hard to grasp. I keep seeing 0.6g-0.8g protein per pound of body weight. Is this the correct way to go if I'm looking to build? I know these kind of posts are hated but anyway.

Oh I'm 25, 6ft1 and weight 82kg.

Anything will be taken on board :)

Aka the dream

Going to stay a dream, however much the IPF bleat or make silly rules about being within 100ft of Ed Coan; the IOC are always doing their best to get reduce the number of sports/events in the Olympics (yet keep beach volleyball in because it has high TV ratings... sigh), weightlifting just about has enough of an audience and tradition to keep it from getting dropped (at the moment, anyway), so the chances another strength sport being added in...

I'm not confident that powerlifting will make it to the olympics either! Not at least in the current format.

PL has a few advantages over weightlifting in that the average joe can relate better to it and there's more money to be made from it. Too bad it's like watching paint dry unless there's a close battle or someone really puts on a show.

It really doesn't need it though. I'm happy with the IPF as it stands, strict judging, testing and a rapidly expanding talent pool. PL is heading in a good direction :)

After not being at the gym for months, been back a week or so. Managed a modest 2x90KG reps on the chest press. I know it sucks but it's something back, aiming for 2x110KG by end of March.

Still skinny fat, belly not going and need to cut out some crap in my diet.

Would love to deadlift by still too nervous to ask anyone for help there. I have a barbell at home but only 25KG weights lol. Going to buy a storage chest and more weights and rubber mat and do it from home.

Why not approach someone DLing and ask them if they can teach you in between sets? If it's quiet I can't imagine anyone having a problem.

Today was fairly busy. I'll have to ask what days/times are less busy. I can do it at home but doing it at the gym is gonna give me way more motivation to actually carry on the reps. And to make sure my form is good.

Based on your stats, I would say that you probably don't have much skeletal muscle. You have come to the right place. ;) :)

Check out the OP on page 1 of this thread as there is lots of goodness in there.

Garden shed as a gym what do you rekon minimum size should be?

Well... What do you want to do in there? I have a weightlifting platform in my shed and it is 9' * 7'... It is cosy, but I don't need anything else.

The only problem I have in there is height as I find it impossible to stand up with a press/jerk as the bumper plates hit the ceiling. This, however, depends on how tall you are. :)

Did workout B on SL this morning, didn't realise the Deadlifts were only 1x5, so I did 3x5 as I didn't feel I had achieved anything there.

Squats hurt this morning, think my inner thighs need a really good long warm up before I start to squat. They feel very sore and very tight now so will have to do some good stretching tonight.

Just measured, the middle of a barbell would need to be 2300mm from floor level so that plus 1/2 a plate dimension plus a bit for height.

Equipment wise, bench, power rack and a rower (which I already have)

A lot of people suggest 3x5 for deadlift anyway, its hard to progress doing just 1x5.

I stopped taking creatine and protein shakes about a month back and haven't noticed a decrease in performance, but have lost around 3kg in weight. It's got me a touch concerned as naturally i'm skinny as a twiglet and each kg is hard earned! Is this likely to be just water retention? Calories and protein wise I'm getting the same as before.
