I just buy from MyProtein/GoNutrition depending on who has the best deal at the time (they always have offers on). I usually get unflavoured and just add hot chocolate powder, but I recently bought Maple Syrup & Pancake from GoNutrition and it actually tastes quite nice. Cafe Latte from there is also good. The only thing is they put too much sweetener in, so it tastes really sweet.

Thanks, I gave MyProtein a go as they have a new year special on. Ordered the chocolate orange stuff so hopefully it's not too bad.

£3.20 a week! Dang that's cheap. How big is it?

Very very big. Loads of Hammer Strength and Nautilus machines and about 8 squat racks. Massive free weight area with dumbells going up to 65kg. Proper gym gym if you know what I mean. There's some machines that I don't even know how to operate (with nearly 20 years gym experience) so I can assume it's intimidating as hell for a newbie.

Fortunately my gym is a small private non corporate neither is it super commercial which means that you get the same faces and a small amount of new membership trickling in. It's rather a specialised functional strength and conditioning gym so not many machines (half a dozen at most) but squat racks and deadlift platforms.

Usual crowd in yesterday.

All foe £13 a month!? Nice!

The best you can hope for at that price point over here now is some 24 hour prats paradise :(

3kg gain over Xmas bringing me to 92.8kg. Two days later, 1.4kg dropped, and sitting at a less watery 91.4kg. Always fun when you get to watch changes happen so quickly :D

Speaking of 24 hour gyms, I visited a pure gym on Monday.....it was an experience indeed. Pleasantly surpised they had 3 racks....all of which were being used for exercises unknown....eventually I secured one but when I got the bench setup I sank into 4inches of foam.....what kind of sorcery is this?! Got some work done at least :D

The nail in the coffin was when I needed my randomly generated, only used once in my life 8 digit pin code to use the bathroom....

I'll not be back.

I think an experience is the only way to describe them, not one I wish to repeat.
Except maybe for the gym bunnies

The last 4 digits are your month and year of birth, makes it much easier when you only have to remember the first 4 digits.

For a budget gym, I cant knock pure gym at all. In the local area its actually the best equipped gym by quite a margin! Shocking when membership is currently being offered for £8.99.

I'm in. Had 2 years off from any type of weights, only been doing a bit of Insanity type stuff to keep the fitness up, even that has tailed off over the last 6 months. Time to get back on it.

Initially will be doing a month of mainly cardio and swimming just to get some level of fitness back. Will throw a few sessions of 5x5 back in though. Then hopefully back on it properly. Travel around a fair bit through the month and also take the little girl swimming on weekends, so have ended up giving the moveGB gym membership a trial (it's an interesting concept, they partner with gyms, fitness places etc. you pay moveGB the membership and they pay the facility when you attend presumably at a discounted rate. All classes at the local council places are included and places like Pure Gym etc. So long as you stick to the FUP of only 7 visits a week then there are no extra charges!). It's £30 a month as I got a discount, but for that I get to use gyms at work in Huddersfield and at home in Leeds and also places further afield when I'm staying away. So long as I go twice a week it'll cover the outlay, so anything over that is a saving.

First session at lunch today, is it possible to get pre-gym aches....... :D

Also back in the game.

I still hold some power and shape from a pityful once a week for last few months (primarily leg days) but nothing like the glory days which i aim to recapture.

Little one now 6 months old, so a little less disturbed at night so i dont always look like the walking dead.

Goals - get running more, build some better shape in time for Easter :)

Good session again tonight. Physio taped my knee again.

Warmed up by skipping and moving a medicine ball then some light pad work 100 punches x 3 on the toes then some light bag work. Front squats which I seem to be getting the hang of now. Barbel row with one end of the bar weighted and the other in the corner of the room.

Followed by some heavy pad work in 2 minute sets.

:)

New Year, new me. :p

I completely fell off the wagon last year and was pretty much just going through the motions rather than having a goal in mind. This year I'm determined to compete in powerlifting, no matter what my numbers are, just to give it a shot.

My 1RMs have dropped but I'm currently working with a 115kg Bench, 170kg squat, and a 220kg deadlift at 101kg. Deficit deadlifts tonight, really looking forward to it!

Is post workout flu a thing?

Worked out heavy on Tuesday, felt hammered yesterday like I was coming down with something, feel fine today.

Worked out heavy last Saturday, had the same feeling on Sunday, cleared up on Monday.

EDIT: Not just post workout aches and pains, had those plenty of times. This was sore throat, lethargic, bunged up nose, just like onset of flu/cold.

Yes, I get it sometimes if I've had a break and then hammered a big workout. You're putting some real strain on your body/cns so it makes sense that if you're not used to it you'll suffer.
