Bit of a weird question about shoulder mobility - if I try and join my hands behind my back putting one arm over the shoulder and one just behind my back I can do it comfortably putting my right arm over. However if I try and it the other way with my left arm over my shoulder I can't even get close - my right arm doesn't go anywhere near as high up my back, and my left can't get anywhere near as far down. Is this an indication of poor shoulder mobility on a particular side or am I reading too much into this?

Yes I had this problem before I started yoga. Fixed it now. As DF said it's a lack of internal rotation (at least with the bottom arm), easily fixed. I was super happy when I was able to get both arms as good as each other... but then I found my shoulder flexibility was still too poor to execute
1) elbow levers
2) forearmstands

So I'm back to being annoyed again.

Rids - add internal and external rotator cuff exercises to your routine. I could feel the difference in my shoulder mobility after only two sessions :)

Thanks guys - will get working on it.

After a bit of googling apparently there is Kelly Starrett video which explains the issue and how to resolve, so will check it out.

Squatted 90kg for 5x5 today. Felt quite good. Not as strong as I once was though. I bench pressed today for first time in a while and I hated it. Barbell press is giving me a lot of shoulder discomfort. Think I'm gonna retire from that exercise for a while. Over head press is great for me though.

Loving being back in the gym though. I've been using creatine this time and it's making me feel a bit stronger and have gained some water in the last few weeks. Feels good!

I found that Dumbell press with neutral grip and lighter weight helped me keep some bench press power whilst being much gentler on my shoulder. Could just be me though.

You're probably right. I did try to press yesterday with a slight incline and just 17.5kg dumbells and it wasn't quite so sore. It's kinda frustrating because I do like to have a decent bench weight but I can live without it.

zomg Lu snatched a new WR last night, had 8kg lead going into the c'n'j and some Kazark midget put an 8KG gain on the WR in the clean and jerk to match his total and beat him on bodyweight. Inb4 he gets popped like all the rest of the Kazak team. #bitter

Lol - just watched those lifts...

Lu's was epic and all the more so because he's 32 years old... Rahimov's was also very impressive but not - IMVHO - a clean lift. And given all the Kazak top lifters have been popped, I would not be surprised to see him out retrospectively.

Epic lifting, regardless!

It reminded me of Alexey Lovchev at Worlds. Think if Lu had made his first jerk he'd have been good for a little higher total but hey ho. He makes those cleans look soooooooooooo easy.

Very frustrating, I have lost a lot of straight out press strength. That said, dumbells are great for secondary muscles to stabilise the dumbells and my chest has developed better with them. Now that my shoulder is better I throw in some barbell pressing, but still largely stick to dumbells. It also means I don't need a spot, which is great, because I don't often have one :p

I never bench fully flat if I used DBs, I always have the most shallow incline set - I find it really helps with any shoulder rotation issues.

In respect to barbell vs DB: I alternate between the two as my main lift ever 2 or 3 months. I either train:
Flat Barbell
Incline DB

Or
Flat DB Press
Incline Barbell.

Is it just me or are back DOMS the worst kind of DOMS?

Leg DOMS has me walking around like John Wayne and going "ow, ow, ow, ow" every time I go down stairs, but back DOMS is endlessly there nagging away!

I find ab doms the worst, feeling like you're being ripped in 2 whenever you move.
