*** The 2017 Gym Rats Thread ***

I was trying the High bar again today.
Still not getting low enough, leaning forwards at the bottom.
I'm still blaming my ankle flexability for these so keeping the stretches going daily.

But another thing is my hips, I think I stand wrong (Anterior pelvic tilt?)
(Wearing clothes today, too many complaints :p)

Assuming technique is ok, drop down to sets of 8-10 and batter out the volume. After all, bigger muscles can move more weight, amirite?

I can drop to 60kg and rep out 15 for 5+ sets.

I'll try going more volume at 20+ reps

my technique is pretty basic, none of this arched back malarky. flat back planted feet etc, I do have piddly little wrists though which I think is making my bar move backwards towards my head, maybe wrist wraps would help in that area?

How many reps can you get out at 70kg?

Definitely sounds like there's some mental barrier in there rather than physical if you can drop by 10kg and get treble the reps over more sets.

could be right, there's no safety bars on the bench so I'm always a bit cautious

Arching allows you to bench more and helps protect your shoulder from certain injuries.

I've tried playing around with an arched back, it just doesn't seem to work with me. most likely not doing it properly though.

I honestly can't believe you can OHP 70kg for reps, but can't bench 70kg.

What does a human with these capabilities look like? Maybe if you're cheating the OHP?

I know a lot of people (myself included) who can bench almost twice that and still struggle with 70kg OHP

sorry maybe miss communication.

I mean 1rm overhead I am stronger. but that's using a push press log 90kg, continental clean and press with axel bar 85kg. Whereas I can't get 85kg bench up I look like a mouse caught in a trap! so maybe not comparable with the leg drive. still the numbers don't make sense to me!

Maybe that's the issue, maybe get some? or a new bench.

only bench my gym has sadly. all the other gyms are either **** tips with even worse equipment or too busy.

The plan is to convert the dining room into a barbell room eventually.

I do like doing my workout at home now :)

Maybe go for some dumbbells? You'll most likely not be able to press as much, but if you bail out they fall to the sides.
If your gym has the increments, you can work up then when you go back to the bar you'll find it easier so less of a headgame

I did try the dumbell route however I actually struggled getting the dumbells into position due to my tiny baby like wrists giving way. which reminds me I need wrist wraps

edit: ordered :)

Wrist wraps? Why should they be required? I can happily bench the 40kg Dumbbells without them.

Seems absurd that your bench is so poor at barely over 10% increase in weight. I can do 60kg for 15 reps easily enough, and working at around 80kg for 3x8 - and I consider myself a poor bencher. Either you're going full retard with a lack of self esteem, or there's something wrong with your form.

what I believe from watching videos etc is my wrists tend to bend over during bench causing the weight to be behind my forearms.

I shall have a play with my form and try some other things. my grip might be too wide/narrow or something silly. Ill try get a video up of some sorts see if you guys can fix it

That is otherwise known as bad form in the shape of a time-bomb.

Get your position and bar path sorted or you will never be able to bench to your chest's potential.

Rice, vegetables, then meat? :D

Do you like fish? Do you eat dairy?

You can make a nice quiche, or some awesome pastas, roasts, stews, jambalaya, swap rice for orzo or quinoa or bulgar wheat.

Eurgh... did some sprinting on Friday at a family fun-day (playing CTF with kids).

:eek::eek::eek:

The worst leg DOMS since I discovered DBSS. But so sweet in a sick, twisted, slightly demented way.
