*** The 2017 Gym Rats Thread ***

No probs. You can do quite a lot of different styles. I make them to deal with left overs and off cuts. So makes it nice and cheap too! If you don't want to use rice you can use different carbs.

Pinged my knee a couple of weeks ago going for a 160kg squat peeb still not right and I don't think folding it up when I'm on the bike is helping :( . Knew I should have bailed, but pain is temporary and glory is forever amirite?

Oh no, I feel your pain :(

Still working with my messed up AC joint. I got really down in the gym today trying to do chest work. I also really miss front squats. Zercher squats seem like a viable compromise - am I going to look like a dumbass though? :(

2 weeks rest and it is amazing how all kinds of DOMS come back. It is amazing how the body adapts to the gym.

Since I got my own bar, I've struggled with gripping during deadlifts.
Bar just feels like it slips out my hand.
Today I wrapped a hand towel round it, and hook gripped and it felt much better.
Have I just got a shoddy bar? Eg not rough enough knurling

Chalk?

Also, not all bars are created equal, with some having different diameters, too.

Buy some chalk, the only thing that should be on your hands when you lift* You will be amazed at how much of a better grip you can get with a bit chalk.

*you could try gloves but I believe that gets you suspended and banned for repeated offences :D

I try to avoid chalk when ever possible, but then I also shave my callouses down. But it definitely does help!

Hook grip is yet to fail me if I ever needed more grip. But it sounds like you are getting to grip failure if the bar is just slipping out of your hands.

Well then,
Before this year I can't say I'd ever considered joining a gym.
Back in February I decided I needed a challenge of some sort and decided to lose a little pudge and get a bit fitter.
@ 181lbs and 5ft11, I wasn't exactly bulging, but I had noticed that beer starting to creep up on me.

6 months later and I've lost two stone, gained some arms and back through pull ups (couldn't do 5 in a row when I started, now its 15 sets of 10 reps, alternating between 3 grips to work different groups each time, so 5 sets of each) gained a little chest and can now run 5k in under 30 minutes without killing myself thanks to some cardio.

Abs I've decided are rediculously hard to get to show, got to the toned stage but that elusive six pack still hides!

So happy with the change, i've got much more energy and feel like I've accomplished something else.

Essay over.

Why do you avoid chalk?

I haven't dabbled into hook grip yet (well I have but not seriously) as I can double overhand 200kg on deadlift easily enough - but moving forwards hook grip is sensible, but it's not nice :( All my 250+ deads (way back when) have been mixed grip, or straps.

Chalk dries my hands out so much. So when I'm on the rig doing muscle ups, pullups or toes to bar it can start pulling my hands apart. Ripping calluses are hella painful.

So I moisturise my hands every night and shave my hands every 2 weeks.

You poor thing! Do you also have to stop halfway through your workouts to avoid DOMS the next day?

How big are your forearms?!!?!!

Nice, well done.
In my experience, those are some quite injury prone exercises and you're doing really well at them!
Forget abs, not everyone was built to have chiseled abs
