Thinking i should do more than 5x5 for squats now. :o

Is there much of a benefit ranging the weights and adding more sets? Assuming so?

After a point, yes, but you have to eat accordingly, sleep etc. You’ll notice the progression, although this is more powerlifting focussed. I pretty much follow a modified version of @reiyushin and his ‘beginner’ programme. Then I throw some of my own stuff on top. As the load ramps up I’ll likely reduce the extra work on top.

Gents has protein powder gone covid mad? It's @ 100quid for 5kg, surely this isn't right. It's only bulk powders isolate. Even the basic whey is 70 to 90. That's doubled in price.

Geez, your right. £90 on Myprotein. Crazy. With a discount the most I usually pay is under £50. It was a little pricier than usual about 4 weeks ago, but that price rise is steep indeed. I wonder why?

That’s weird, will investigate. I order the 5kg bags of unflavoured MP milk protein (70/30 blend of casein/whey) and they were doing 50% off before the price hike so I got 10kg for about £40 which should last me a while...

Back in MuscleWorks tonight for the first time and hooray for longer opening hours, not so hooray for have a full-time DJ booth and pounding out whack training music. I miss the days when Steve Avery worked there and when the owner wasn’t in he’d be blasting rock, metal and take requests.

Nice! Seems only the bigger bags 2-5kg seemed to be inflated?

I still have a good stock from before lockdown as ive not been using it!

94% of body weight OHP with just a little bit of a grind out. I’ll take that. Especially seeing as a few weeks ago I could barely touch anywhere near that weight and then last week injured my rear delt.

I may go to a 531 approach for a few weeks on OHP to vary it up. Usually do 8x3 and then add 2.5kg, but I’m bored of that one.

For anyone interested I then do 5x5 of:
Barbell front raise
Barbell landmine lateral raise
Barbell landmine face pull
Barbell landmine rear fly

Generally I’ll then hit the abs with landmine oblique twists for 5x10 since it gives them time to recover before back day Thu/Fri. I try not to work them too much before leg Monday, so shoulder Tuesday is a good day, although they are already a little fatigued, especially after front squats.

Started 5/3/1 last week, have to say it's a good program. The lack of training since lockdown though has really had an effect on my body that shocked me how weak it has made me.

Was supposed to get a heavy squat in last night but a pipe broke in my gym :'( was able to deadlift (which actually went great) but now I've got squats tonight and I'm pretty sure I'm doomed haha :D

Is anyone able to tell me what these bars are and how much they weigh please?

The gym, (in their infinite wisdom) have decided to put all the excess Olympic bars away so it's a free for all (squat racks are missing them half the time) so it means I may have to do deadlifts and shoulder press with them but without knowing how much they weigh it will be tricky.

Managed a squat PB this morning - 70kg 3x3 at the end of other sets. I weigh 62kg so i am happy.

Was also quite cool seeing 20kg plates either side. :o

120kg on the leg press a bit later on.

Muscleworks is dead atm, I think them jacking up the membership cost has made a lot of people not come back and sign-up elsewhere, although unless they're content to train in a poverty chain gym, the other big warehouse gyms in the region are a bit of a trek (Crayford Weights & Fitness and Kings Gym). It's a 2 min drive from my house though so I'd rather pay more for the convenience.

I'm genuinely surprised how well the bodyweight stuff managed to maintain about 80-85% of my strength, especially the front of my legs only being able to do pistol squats and step-ups. Not used to carrying load on my back or front rack and the neurological demand of working at closer %'s to 1RM, and my hip hinging has suffered, but should all be back in a few weeks in my estimation.

Good example of 'the amount of work needed to maintain and adaptation is significantly less than the amount of work required to obtain that adaptation in the first place'.

My gym is dead as well, they've a cap of 60 people per session and it's never close to filled, 35 in it right now. Can't imagine they're making a profit.

Squats went better than expected
