The £300-£1250 Tower, Full & HTPC System Weekly Builds Thread

This is an excellent thread and should be made a sticky. It would spare us from a lot of "spec me" threads then.

Personally, for the £300 tower, i would have gone with the excellent Gigabyte P31 DS3L mobo and got a better graphics card such as the £58 ATI 3850. That mobo with a E2180 is an excellent combo.

I'll second that.

I've heard it's on par with the P35 for basic needs/overclocking, and the 3850 should be far superior to the 3650.:)

I am about to build the HTPC £400 system but have a few questions.

All the systems I have built recently have been with Intel CPUs, what is the advantage in this build of using a AMD?

Is the onboard sound not good enough, why does it need an extra sound card?

Thanks

Martin

are you sure m8, havent actually read anyone on the forums with it

Oh yes. I easily got a E2180 to 3.6Ghz with one. There are loads of options in the bios for clocking, more than some P35 boards in fact. You get a hell of a lot of board for £45.

The £58 3850 is far superior to the 3650 and is a steal at that price.

That combo with a couple of gig of PC2 6400 would make an excellent budget gaming pc.

I'd also like to know if onboard sound is any good of if i would be better to buy a sound card?

Thanks.

i did know the prices dropped, but now i can accomodate it in. i was trying hard, but couldnt, but thanks for that. will change asap. also might have to change the GTX280 one, to accomodate the lower price :)

and as for HTPC, the AMD 780G chipset mobos are the best for HTPC, as they support full 1080p decoding via the onboard gfx card. obviously the asus xonar cards would be better for sound, but becuase of the restriced budget i had to not include that.

RTM?

thats the problem, not many people read the stickies, they go straight under that, so i'd rather people just bump this.

Hit the little warning triangle under each post and it brings up a box to Report To Moderator, you are meant to use it for 'bad' posts but it can be used to get threads moved, stickied or just highlight possible issues.

FlippinEck, its will work perfectly fine, and its a great OCer aswell.

semi-pro, ahh didnt know you could use that for those reasons.

still i am nto sure about stickiing it. might end up like most stickies.... (unread) LOL

Umm well persoanlly i read the stickies if they have a post that is fairly recent, but if you posted like everytime you add your new setup which is each week or so.
Also i see in this the thread a few of people asking you to spec some systems for them, i suppose you could be the chief speccer type of person!

*kinda drunk ramblings really but meh, go with the flow*
