The 328i - A bit of a project

I think it totally depends on body colour. Silver cars look horrible with tango.

I'll detango the front lights deffinitly, but the side repeaters and the rears I'll probably leave tango.

Looks wrong imo.

Looks ok (don't have any decent pics of the rear yet).

We'll see though, if parts come up at a price I can't refuse, then I'll grab them.

No, you miss the point. You seem to think anything with an 'M3 kit' on it is trying to be an M3, whereas you seem oblivious to the fact BMW did genuine Sport models of certain E36's which came from the factory with the same bodykit.

Slightly? This is waaaay off topic, it's a project thread. But I don't mind, I'll not get anything removed (posts-wise I mean), and will update when I update anyway. :)

Front and rear skirts/splitters were different were they not?

No I'm merely stating that unfortunately, to my eyes, its a bit of a let down! Thats all!

I initially think "Oh great an M... Whatever" only to think "Bah" as it turns out not to be,why? because I like M cars.

I assure you I'm far from oblivious to the fact BMW did genuine Sport models of certain E36's and others - making them initially look like an M car is to my mind a shame as it dilutes the image of the M cars.

What is the usual amount of money to spend on a cheap BMW before you realise you should have just bought a newer one that worked?

:D, will do, tbh it's probably going to have a lot of work done over the next few weeks so might be worth a thread. Word to the moms.

My little bit of rust turned out to be more than expected.. Sigh.

:| In what way? I'm getting the rust sorted on mine next week.

On a side note, I think the front of my 318 looked better with orange (although rear looks a lot better with clear lenses hence changing the lot):

R420LA6X2/4MNA: your car would be perfect if it had the wider Sport/M3 bumpstrips down the side like Paradigm's car.

There's a part of me that thinks that buying cheap and then renewing the parts is a positive thing. in the sense that you get to know the car, and can account for the condition of the components (the replaced ones at least).

I would do rear over the rest of them - the clear rear lights really tidy up the back end. Side and front don't really matter but you need to do them to match the rear.

As I've pointed out numerous times, I would never get the initial capital to buy newer, as I'd be looking at around 4-5k ideally on an e46, if not more and it could well also need tyres and brakes.

If you bother to read my threads, so far I've bought consumables, the only actual fixing the car requires is a rust patch on the rear passenger wing, and some light rust on the rear driver's arch.

But of course you wouldn't know or care as you have a Mondeo that's amazing and doesn't need any consumables.

Seriously, stay out of my threads, I'm bored of it.

Of course, there is the other argument, that some people actually WANTED an e36. For me, it is reliving my childhood when my father had one, as well as it being a car I wanted to own when I was learning to drive.

Couple that with it being a very nice handling chassis, and (IMO) a good looking car, and it was a no-brainer.

I wanted a car, of 3-series size, that was RWD, not really many other contenders out there for the pittance I paid for it. Yes, I'm now paying to make it perfect, but that is because I like it.

It started as a few small bubbles, but after a good badgering with the screwdriver it turned out to be a hole. It was getting dark though so I'll assess it in the morning, might need some new metal. Anyway lol I'll start a separate thread.

Agreed, I could quite easily spend the cost of purchase of my 318iS on a new suspension setup (I probably will too in a couple of months). The car is superb on the track, so I don't see it as dead money - more a bonus that it was so cheap to start off with.
