The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

Do you have a permission sorted?

Also bear in mind you will need permission on the land your shooting on and you cant just go popping bunnies on anyones land as that then becomes armed trespassing. Permissions for land is quite fierce among air-gunners and small bore shooters and is generally all taken up.

Cheers mate. Looking forward to going in it looks a good friendly place

I too am a member, although I haven't been for about 9 months (fell in love with rimfire and fullbore shooting and neglected the old air rifle :()

A quick vid of me working my way up the targets, to give you a look at the range.

The targets I am shooting at have to be hit in the middle to fall and can be reset from the bench by pressing a button that resets them pneumatically, there are also paper targets that can be moved up and down range (you get a glimpse of this at the end) and finally there are some really really small holes at the far end that have shotgun cartridges in that go off if you can hit them :)

Glad you enjoyed it mate.

i've been shooting myself this morning on the pistol range shooting 10m open sights with my old Webley Nemesis that weighs like a brick and ive had it since about 1998 (below).

It was a complete pig to re-sight it. I've shifted my sights now to the picture below. I'm aiming under but hitting centre and its tonnes easier to see the target and aim now as previously it was mainly obscured by the iron sights

Borrowed one of the committee member's Hw75 pistol (see below). My god it's like a new world for pistol shooting. Much lighter, better grip and feels so much better to shoot, plus it's all metal. The safety near the trigger is nice, you have to **** the hammer with your thumb as well so its almost like having two safeties.
But the greatest thing is the adjustable trigger is so light and crisp compared to the 14miles of slack on the nemesis.

Picking my fathers Airsporter and Meteor up on Wednesday then taking them down the range on Sunday to Chrono them and have the chap there have a look over them and quote me for a restoration for both.

scorchisio - What rifle were you using when you did that target shooting and at what distance?

I found the lack of recoil on PCP's and lack of wind on an indoor range can make shooting look ridiculously easy and it gets a little boring after a short while (weeks for me). Outdoor ranges or HFT ranges are where it gets interesting for me although I haven't shot in about 3 years now.

It was a hw100. Pleasure to shoot. The bad grouping wasn't the guns fault I just don't have the steadiest hands in the world lol. Various ranges mate obviously I got worse the further it was. Definitely hooked on it now but doubt I'll ever be able to afford a good rifle like that I've just not got enough spare money after child maintenance rent and bills so just going to hire at the club.

I've never been an advocate of dedicated target pistols, especially the single-shot variety. I'm pleased the UK air gun market is moving in the direction of authentic replicas. Blowback functionality, field stripping, drop-free magazines etc. That's the way forward.

I recently got my hands on an Umarex Beretta Mod. 84 FS. It's truly an authentic replica. The main selling point was it's full metal design, licensed trades, and crisp blowback action. The trigger-pull is something of a let down, but the pistol makes up for it by being surprisingly accurate, and very efficient on CO2. Spare magazines are a must!

Blowbacks are very inefficient on co2 because they are blowbacks. I like pistols as they are easy to plink with when the rifle range is full its eaay enough to jump on the pistol range.
I prefer single shot pneumatics as there is almost zero recoil and no failures.

I am torn between getting the Alecto which with 3 strokes can go to the legal limit and is a entry target pistol but with enough bang to take small vermin easily (plus if i wanted to be boss i can fit a moderator) or the HW 75 which looks and feels the business, entry level again and must better build quality, dead accurate but only packs a 2.5 ft lbs against the alectos 5.6 so its only really a target pistol

Well picked up my fathers old air rifles on Wednesday so need to get them down the range this weekend and then time for the restoration. They are in better condition than they look.

It's a shame that the HW75 is so low powered, when it's spring powered brother is the full legal limit. It's something that has always put me off getting one.

I think i'd go for the Alecto as it would be a lot more fun imo.

This is the problem with pneumatic pistols, they require multiple pumps. Springers can get away with a harder spring.

Alecto would be good for general pisotl shooting and pests as its near the legal limit however at the moment i'm primarily target shooting and the HW 75 is just so god damn nice to shoot and it looks brilliant.

I think i might end up with both one day lol
