The Air Rifles & Pistols thread

just picked up a .22 cometa 300 rifle off a facebook selling group with silencer and scope, pellets and bag for £70. In great condition. checked some reviews and seems great for the money.

I'm sure you will be very happy with it. I got a Cometa 300 in 1999 as my very first air rifle.

The blacking is pretty decent for a budget gun, stock is a bit basic but functions fine, although if you get a larger scope you might need a cheek piece extender. I really like the safety catch, much better placement than a lot of other airguns, but shame it doesn't auto engage. The trigger isn't bad at all for a budget gun. Far better then the trigger on the BSA Lightning that I bought later on.

One thing I would say is to get a better scope mount as you might find they slip back along the grooves on the rifle. There is no holes to use a recoil stop, so a decent one piece scope mount would be a good idea. For now just make sure to keep the bolts tight.

That's a beefy caliber for a springer, the drop on it should be huge lol limited by pellet choice too sadly

It's a gas ram ;)

But yeah it's an interesting caliber to use - certainly does do the job when you make contact though - just the sheer size of it!

Once you do the calculations on chairgun you can pretty quickly get up to speed with the trajectory - can't wait to use it next month when we're off hunting again!

Will of course be taking my .22 Wolverine B with me as well!

Nice, we had a mini comp with cash prize at ours this last saturday. 100 yards at a 6 inch target no ranging shots before hand. Borrowed one of the members single shot s400. It was a lot of fun but some truely mental holdover and there was about a seconds gap between firing and hearing it hit

Got home tonight to find a letter from the shooting club/range I've been attending and I've been cleared by the committee to join the club/range.

I get my key to the club doors on Sunday and my ID badge! Plus I can now be introduced to the small and full bore clubs that shoot out of the range that have a "closed application" membership.

took that cometa 300 22 rifle to the range yesterday, atrocious is not the word, couldnt hit a thing it was shocking, ended up borrowing the hw100 from the place as after about 10 shots with the springer i was depressed. Awful and now up for sale on a few groups lol

LOL, they are difficult for a beginner and require an acquired skill to use correctly. I use the same marksmanship principles from my full bore shooting and once you "get" how to use them they're a blast to use!

Sounds like there was something wrong with it, or you don't know how to hold a springer properly. It's very accurate for a budget springer.

Were you using decent pellets?

I was shooting the thing off a bag like I do with a pcp. Epic fail.

Yeap! They need to held like a "real" firearm. PCP's are the very easiest rifle type to shoot with zero recoil and very little moving parts. Springers are a whole different kettle of fish with a huge spring slamming around throwing the rifle around.

Agreed PCP's are dirt easy to shoot from a bag/bench to relative accuracy. Keep the cometa and practice with it and learn to shoot. Dont expect to pick up any air weapon and shoot like a god because it wont happen

b.s.a supersport anygood these days?

anyone heard of an "original" air rifle? old

i had an original as a kid, i always thought it was called a dyna original, but google searches only come up with a diana original, tbh it was so long ago i cant remember what it looked like so image searching is no good

Got my door key for the range today and my ID badge so now I'm a full member plus one of the local RFD's offers a discretionary discount to club members so I'm now in the market for a PCP air rifle
