*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Had a play on one today, pretty much what I expected, in other words awesome for what I want a portable browser and video player. Got to say the book app impressed me the most, I wouldn't have any problems Reading that for prolonged periods. Shame I can't afford it.

iPad Data Plans....Which?

What are the best and cheapest data plans out there and what is everyone doing for they mobile internet needs with the ipad???

Does anyone know if staff at the Apple store can cancel pre orders for you? I guess I could just log in with my iTunes account on one of the displays. I might head into town tomorrow and get one in the Brighton store (my shipping date is June 7th and I can't wait any longer). Lets just hope Brighton have some in stock.

I asked this and they said no, its a different company. I phoned up they had stock of the one I wanted. Bought it, then went home to cancel the order, because of the long weekend it wont get shipped till Tuesday at the earliest.

Vodafone you have to sign up for a year, so its a throw up between O2 and Orange. I went with O2 since my phone is already on it. So know what I'm getting with the coverage.

Tbh, Im so glad I didnt buy the dock or the dock/keyboard.

1. The case acts like a nice dock, i.e. you can stand it up on the desk and just connect the cable to it.

2. The on screen keyboard is actually BETTER than I originally anticipated. I thought it was going to be a pain to use, but I am using so easily and naturally.

The on screen keyboard is actually very easy to use and I can type nice and fast on it especially when in landscape.

O2 used to be terrible but they've really improved the network over the last six months. I get great speeds everywhere in the city.

I haven't tried 3 in a while but O2 won't disappoint.

Orange claim theirs is the best, but you can't get 3g with them here. Much to my housemates annoyance. It's ironic really as for ages Orange had a "Relax, we've got you covered - our 3g coverage is better than any other network" billboard add at our local train station. And you couldn't get a hint of a 3g signal there on Orange. :D

O2's coverage is perfect, as is t-mobile. Vodafone is a bit hit and miss and I have no idea about 3.

That's just in our little town though, elsewhere could be totally different. :)

Seems to be a lot of people trying to convince themselves they need one of these and not doing a very good job of it!

Because no one NEEDS one of these. It's entirely a luxury item that you could do without in almost any situation. It is however, a nice to have. You just have to work out if it's nice enough to warrant the cost. This is what people are attempting to do. :)

Working in Brighton at the moment and the sea was too rough to go out so I went into town to get um supplies and decided to go to the apple store to have look at one. After fighting people to look at one I fell in love. I was not going to buy one yet but here I am typing this message on a iPad 32gb 3G :p He asked me which provider I wanted and I said O2 but I asked for all the other sims incase I wanted to try another one and so I have them all. O2 was really easy to setup, too easy.

I love it so far and I think I am going to end up depending on it.

Got my £5 case today! Happy with it, just a bright blue neoprene case from eBay, easily do the job until the Dodo's are ready!

Anyone got a good racing or golf game?

Just got back from the store where me and the mrs had a play with the ipad, her thoughts were it's just a big iPhone and not as good as she thought it woud be which left me a little deflated.

My thoughts for what it's worth are much the same as the wifes, it is really just a big iPhone. It did look nice and it is nice to use but it's just not worth the £750+ I was going to spend. I think I'll stick with the iPhone and wait till a decent android pad to come out.

It's a nice device but too pricey for what it is.

It isnt worth the £600 i paid for it thats for sure and I knew that before buying it.
However, its not such a big deal with me as I will claim it all back on expenses as i can see myself using it out on site a lot.

The novelty does wear off though after a few days.

At the moment it really isn't that great - need the jailbreaking community to really get behind it before its a very good device!

And like everyone says; its just a big iphone!

Will wait to see what v4.0 has to offer though....

I paid £499 for mine and know that's over priced but I can easily afford it, and happy to pay it, so did.

Right now I laying on my settee typing this (obviously) also watching Flashforward on TV. No laptop pinning me down.

It's not perfect, or magical, but it's a damn fine toy that, as time passes, and updates made, will be even better.

It'll never replace my desktop PC but my laptop is sat in the corner looking very sorry for itself.

I, for one, do not regret buying it.

It can also be used as a breakfast tray :p

I dunno, I just had a thought, think how much a digital photo frame of this size cost, a frame that does video too, with ips screen, 32g memory, can play video. Those are at least £150 for a Sony one. Then how much is a kindle? Put that together you have something that cost more than the iPad. Oh, it also goes online, email, games, and all that. Don't think of it as a oversize iPhone, or a cut down net book. Think of what it can do, and it can do a lot.

Just think back, 10 years ago if someone out this in front of you, you'll offered them £1000 for it easy. I would. £500 is perfectly reasonable price.

Oh, I could not get a signal with my o2 dongle on my net book but i manage to get a stable edge signal with my iPad. That is priceless for me, to get online in the sticks.

Sent from my iPad :p

I remember many a people on here during the Apple WWDC unveiling of the iPad (before the pricing was announced), that this will cost nothing less than a grand.

Sad story is, that this probably would have still been bought if it we're a grand :D
