*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

If you were to buy the base model in the US, with the current exchange rate it would be about £325. I'm expecting something around the £380 mark.

Sad thing is Apple have never cared much for direct exchange-rate conversions.

They usually do a find and replace on $ for the £ symbol

There was an iPod touch model at $499. It was listed as £389 in the UK store. I'd be disappointed if the iPad breaks the £400 mark. If it does I will be waiting until I travel to the US in the summer to buy one.

i like the product, i just dont have a need for it, or one i can invent? My iPhone is perfect as a casual browser, music player, anything more i think i'd prefer a laptop for? Thebeauty of a laptop, and a part of the problem i see with this is that you dont have to hold it up - the hands can be used for typing, whereas you have to hold the iPad up all the time. That and the fact the laptop is more versatile, works on ALL of the web, and probably multitasks better means i'd struggle to pay money for fewer features.

I dunno, £250, i'd probably buy one >£350 i defintately wouldnt - and i'd expect it to be around the £350+ mark.

I agree. Buying it as a laptop replacement makes no sense.

This is an expensive accompaniment, and for those instances where using an iPhone would be annoying.

.

That depends on what you use your laptop for, If I hadn't broken mine and could have got a decent sum of money for it then I would have looked at swapping.
It's the form factor that is the important bit and not what it does for me. As I use a portable device for such a limited amount of tasks.

Indeed, although the majority of reviewers are saying it's not wise to ditch a laptop in favour of this. I suppose it depends on your expectations, as you say. I'd use one as a primary machine (as I have no laptop) but the major killer for me at the moment is the lack of direct printing.

Although, I do hear this is being added in OS 4.0 so I'll hold judgement until then.

Got mine today - £430 + £20 delivery from Ebay.

Very impressed screen is excellent - although very reflective like a Macbook. In fact the unit actually looks like a smaller Macbook Pro screen without the keyboard.

It is very responsive - you can tell it has a better CPU etc than the 3GS.

Only thing is at work now with no wifi so it cant actually do much!

:D
