*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Owned 3 laptops, destroyed 3 laptops, got anoyed with keyboard and how slow they were and battery life when not plugged in, on top of that all I did was web surf and watch videos.

Exactly. My laptop has hardly been used in the last year. I turned it on for the first time in months to transfer my iTunes stuff to my desktop in anticipation of getting an iPad. I've been using my phone to browse the web and watching youtube videos whilst lounging on the sofa. An iPad will be an ideal midpoint.

Lol, that's alright :)
I paid £485 for the 16GB model. Probably a lot more than it'll cost in the UK, but I knew I could have it in my hands within hours (purchased last night from a local seller and had it this morning) and that was too tempting. He'd bought six whilst on holiday in the States so wasn't stung by import taxes.

I'd have done it if I had the money right now, but until a cheque clears I don't! Good choice!

Like a lot of the unsure people i'm pretty much sold now, it will be great for quickly putting the photos I am taking on to have a look at and with multitasking it will be superb on my train rides, hopefully there are some good books to buy, few palahniuk books maybe!

I'm still on the fence, once the novelty factor wears off, I'll see how Many end up on mm, if however everyones still raving about them in 2-3 months I'll look into it, only use to me right now is net and showing clients my portfolio in an impressive looking way.

It's annoying that developers are charging for iPad-only versions of their apps.

I like Flight Control... but it's not worth a double purchase, just because they can't be arsed to build a universal binary.

Charge the difference to existing users of the iPhone apps, or just do it for free.. there's no way I'm buying all my apps again (twice)

Part of the issue is file size - if the iPad version of the game is much bigger its not really fair on iPhone users.

Mine should be here tomorrow!!

I'd say that's a non-issue when the firmware downloads are 250MB a pop :p

On a related note.. my parents came back from holidays, but they went to a Apple reseller who didn't have stock of iPads! DOH!!

I'm expecting a big, fat no, but does anyone know if it'll be possible to use a USB Mobile Broadband dongle plugged into an Apple-supplied USB adapter to allow 3G connectivty on the WiFi-only Ipad?

I heard theirs a massive issue with its browser o.O
Source?

He's probably talking about the re-loading of pages with only two tabs open. Its a memory thing I believe. More screen real-estate = more memory required by the framebuffer (the thing that keeps 'UI Screens' in memory).

Read the "Safari" section of grubers thoughts: http://daringfireball.net/2010/04/the_ipad

I hope this can be improved significantly in an iPad software update, but I worry that it’s endemic — that because the iPad screen is so much larger than the iPhone’s, that MobileSafari must allocate significantly more memory per page for the framebuffers. 256 MB of RAM simply may not be enough for MobileSafari to keep more than two or three pages in memory. If so, Apple really needs to consider some sort of caching or serialization scheme rather than completely flushing away purged pages.

Not really on the bandwagon, they showed (essentially*) that tablet with all the other slates/tablets at the beginning of January, however it's nice to see they are going to stick android on it instead of Chrome. :p

*Was shown with Chrome not Android

As for that Video is he not just remoting in to a virtual machine or something? The "off" mouse is identical to when I remote desktop into a VM myself.
