Remove the competitor.....I am in the same position as you..i want one but i know it will be like my ipod touch which is now untouched for months
I have a nice office setup, and a laptop (which I never use). I guess it's ideal for in front of the tv/bed and then I start thinking ... I could just get a newer laptop for the price (to replace the one I never use) but I think I'd use the iPad a lot more because of how easy/quick to pick up/sexy it is.

And order cancelled. Went through all the situations I'd use the iPad in, and realised I'd actually rather use my phone in almost all of them. Especially with the iPhone 4 a couple of weeks away! I could have the best of both worlds and get both which was my original plan, but I'd never actually -use- the iPad.

My iMac does just that. Move mouse,screen comes on, Safari is always open so straight to the net. However it is a little difficult to carry around with me.
Typing this on my wife's MacBook and it would be a lot easier on an iPad as even a 13" laptop is a little cumbersome for on the sofa browsing.
My iPhone is good for mobile data but the screen is too small. Quod erat demonstrandum an iPad 3G would just about be perfect - just a little pricy.

Does the iPad have the same problem as the iPhone with web pages with lots of images in (like the random image thread) or does the increased RAM and A4 chip help?
I just loaded the first page of the random image thread and it was very smooth with no issues and that's at 80 posts per page.
As I don't own an iPhone and thus unsure what problem you are referring to, I maybe missing something.
I don't know what the iPhone problem is, but the iPad is quite slow at loading gallery threads. The chequerboard background is present as it loads the information underneath. If you scroll back up it also see the chequerboard background.
I think the iPad could do with a bit more memory.
