*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Hmm think I might need to upgrade the 3 data plan just watched two episodes of top gear on BBC iplayer and it's a good chuck gone  bloody love it though just had some guy showing of his blackberry phone to a friend on the train and I pull out the iPad, classic envy lol:D

I was in M&S on Saturday doing some shopping for lunch, I had my messenger bag on me but i asked for a plastic bag to put the food into as I didn't want any leakage to get to the iPad.

So when I pulled out the iPad to make room for the food in my messenger bag before slotting it back in the girl on the counter's eyes opened really wide and said "Is that an iPad?"

It's been 3 weeks since I've had mine, and I have not seen another soul in person using one, apart from those in the Apple Store. These things are rare in public!

Yea only had it a couple of days but I have seen no more on the trains or coffee shops just lots on macbooks and netbooks, there must be some more in Yorkshire some were

/me raises hand.

I have one! Not taken it out yet though, awaiting a case :/

Yes. It's perfect for that as long as you don't mind the lack of Flash compatibilty. For me it's only been the odd occasion where I've missed flash. Hopefully Apple will one day sort out whatever reason they don't like Flash.

My laptop hasn't been touched since I got this iPad except when I needed to unauthorise it for iTunes.

It's also great for checking work emails before I set off in the morning so I don't have any great surprises when I get in. Much easier than booting up my PC.

grrrr....sounds great, no money but an itch for shiney gadget, must resist

Got an email last night confirming my apple case has been shipped and should be with me today

Cool stuff :)

I'm officially waiting for iPad2.

Well they're certainly not rare in central London, and I'm afraid to say everyone I've seen using one just looked like they were struggling to use it like a netbook, or had a case that basically turned it into a netbook without a keyboard.

I'm still hoping some awesome tethering and/or viewable PSD software appears. If I could hook one upto my DSLR to use as an allmighty review display it would be awesome, as would having a mini portfolio for photography and retouching. However if a netbook can't properly handle 20mb+ raw files, I very much doubt this can. Unfortunately it would largely be a use of technology for technologies sake.

You'll probably find those items will be out of date by the time iPad 2 is released in mid 2011 (thats if they release it then). It will probably be quater 3 in 2011 that we will see an updated iPad.

When you first put a SIM in the 3G do you need to connect to iTunes at all?

Is there any scenario you have to connect to iTunes other than the first use of the iPad?

I think with my Three, i put it in, connected to itunes and it checked for my carrier settings and updated them itself so i didnt have to do anything. Then switched it off for an hour and turned it back on and i was online (had to wait for sim to be activated).

iTunes will download the carrier settings for you.

My O2 PAYG SIM works fine without any APN settings, and you can type them in manually on the iPad instead of having iTunes fill them in for you.

So yeah, you can just stick in the SIM without connecting to iTunes at-all.

Im pretty sure it could easily handle a 20mb raw file with bells on, if its only displaying it, not a problem, the CPU in it is much faster than a normal netbook affair, also the software is much more tuned.

Use it like a netbook? I use it like a tablet. Read like the net a magazing/book, i don't carry a KB with me and plonk it up on a table so i can type like a netbook...i have a netbook for that, which has not been turned on since i got the iPad.
