*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Not sure if it's worth starting a new thread, but,

If I was to sell my 64GB Wi Fi Ipad, could I sell it with all the apps intact to the new purchaser? Or would I have to restore to Factory condition?

cheers. :)

Ok i am going to Miami soon and so am looking to take advantage of the cheaper prices?
I am torn between a Macbook AIR and iPad. Now i know the differences and advantages of each so im not looking for them but i do have a few questions..
1)If i went for a iPad wifi can i connect to HTC Legend (Android) to get 3g connection?
2)I am sure i have asked before but just to double check i can use and be warrantied in the uk if bought from USA.
3)Whats the best/cheapest case that i can get for the iPad.

2) Everyone I've heard says yes
3) Umm.. its personal preference. Depending if you want just a back bit or like a leather 'flap one'. I still find my snugg case OK (leather flap one)

I really like the look of this iPad stand myself. :)

£54 ouch. Though it looks wicked.

I will be sticking with mine :p http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H1060ZM/A

Cheers for those links. How sturdy would you say the griffin one is? I need something that's going to make it as difficult as possible for a small child to accidentally push off a desk.

Well impressed with the ipad anyway, although after using the iphone4 the screen loses a bit of it's wow factor and it definitely needs more RAM. The new one can't come soon enough.

Well, got my ipad 3 days ago and i have to say im blown away - this is the best gadget ive ever bought and to think i slated it (no pun intended) when it first came out.

My question if someone could help is....
Is there a way to completely back up the ipad to my laptop so if i bought another one or mine broke i can just have all the apps and settings loaded back on which of course will save me a lot of time?

Yes - iTunes will do this.

Simply put, if the iPad is not JB'd then apps are recommended to store their data in specific locations on the underlying filesystem. iTunes will automatically back this up.

Quick question, this isn't from me but from a friend.

If you had the choice, for a Christmas present, iPad v a laptop which would you get?

Also, could you highlight the best bits about the iPad for my friend :)

Thanks in advance and sorry if this doesn't belong here, just thought this would be the best place :)

Well I've just bought two new batteries for my 2007 MBP.. I don't own an iPad.

Mates have iPads and I have no need for one.

I thought about an iPad 2 when they appear but I think by then my phone will start to need replacing (if the battery is dying).

iPad.
Umm, best thing... Hard to say, everything.

Was browsing on the web for 30 minutes using my MiFi on the bus today. Will watch video's when I'm in the car on long trips. Will browse the web at home also as its lovely.

Umm, its pretty sturdy as of the rubber grips it stands on. I would still want it in some sort of case depending how much the child likes to hit things ;) In landscape it will obviously be 'stonger'

Updated to 4.2 GM today. Stuff I've noticed:

WIRED App doesn't load.
Twitter has multitasking, but after a hard reload it doesn't remember your username and password.
Reeder has no multitasking yet. :(
Instapaper does.
Certain games including Reckless Racing appear to default to lower res textures.
Double tap shift for caps lock finally works. :D

Software orientation lock is alright, but Apple clearly hasn't thought out the hardware mute switch. Example: Activate the mute switch. Now adjust the volume. Would you expect the device still to be muted or not? I would say yes, but regardless, the behaviour seems to be inconsistent. In iPod it won't still be muted, but in other apps it will. Also if it does come off, obviously the button is stll in the mute position and presenting the user with confusion.

Well because of this post in a iPhone thread:
Bumper + Gelaskin + Screen protector.

It ended up like £50 though !
I ended up buying: http://www.gelaskins.com/store/skins/ipad_and_ereaders/iPad/Swinging_DAIM

£22 lol. Damn you Raymond!

I'm also running the 4.2GM and am quite surprised at how the memory gimped iPad performs during task switching. I was expecting it to struggle with some ram heavy magazines and games in the background but switching from app to app during that time was very smooth.

Some bugs are evident. There is a WIFI bug, where your wifi connection ends up being dropped after say x amounts of minutes. You then have to manually switch WIFI on and off in settings to get the connection back.

A lot of apps not working or crashing is to be expected though and devs will address this in time. Twitter is prone to this and the author rarely updates his apps as it is due to work pressure.

Another noticeable change (from 4.0) is Safari. It renders pages very rapidly and flicking back and forth through pages is also very fast as it looks like they are being properly cached now.

Finally Folders, a godsend despite the app limitation within a folder.

Edit: My iPad Gelaskin :)

Nice skin. How easy is It to put on?
Presuming the front one will work ok on top of my griffin screen protector,,
Bloody nightmare lol. The curvature of the iPad back makes it a tad awkward and air bubbles do appear out of thin air. Just ensure you use a good squeegy thing as I was using a sock (don't ask!) to smooth down the vinyl.

I never did bother applying the bezel vinyls to the front of the pad as I prefer the front perfectly free from shields etc.
