*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

So unexpectedly I may have an iPad on the way.

I say "may" because the other party involved has a reputation for not being the most reliable person on the planet!

A friend who is on holiday in the USA emailed me last week asking about the iPad and saying whether he should get one. I replied giving the pros and cons and saying that if I had the cash available right now then I'd be asking him to bring me one back (I don't object too much to paying the USA price but the rumoured UK prices are too high).

He's picked up one for himself and has told me that he should get my one before he comes back home. His flight has been delayed until next Friday at the earliest so he has plenty of time!

Hopefully it'll come off for you mate

It's not easy buying one here in the US at the moment. I have been trying to get another one, but all 4 stores I tried were out of stock with no idea when they will get anymore or how many!

I just got an email about a supplier providing them in the UK, I assume imported from the US. The prices are 16gb £550, 32gb £650 and 64gb £800. Simply too expensive for me!

was playing around with one at work on friday, cant say i was impreased with it at all, just cant work out what i would use it for? same size as a netbook but without all the abilities,

Just thinking.... Does it have iR? Would make a rather awesome remote control for the living room going along with the couch surfing idea

I'm in California for three weeks at the start of June so if the UK prices are too inflated, I may be tempted.

Anybody got any idea whether the warranty would hold up for a US personal import if I had problems?

It does for Macbooks so I don't see why not.

Apple have confirmed a US unit would be covered here but only once the iPad is actually launched here.

You can also take the plug prong part off an iPhone charger and add it on to the US iPad charger to get it to work ok here too.

Well I won't be getting my hopes up but I know someone who's currently stuck in the USA till later in the week and he's gonna see if he can get me one.

Think my Kindle DX heard it was going to be put up for sale and replaced by an iPad as it's decided to break down and won't work anymore.

Have spoken to Amazon and they've agreed to replace, but it has to be shipped form the states. So goodness knows when I will receive a replacement.

Taff

A guy has just sat down at the empty desk in front of me with an iPad. It's not as big as I was expecting it to be. I'm going to ask him if I can have a play later.

Mine has just arrived! Very very nice. Posted this from it.

It feels great in the hand. Defo gonna enjoy this :)

I reckon they all have 3G and they've missed it off the 16GB description. Why list one WiFi and the rest 3G?

Possibly/Hopefully!

Otherwise importing from the US makes so much more sense. I won't have one for a few months either way but if the prices are that high it's just ridiculous!

It is a reseller so prices aren't Apple confirmed so they could include import prices etc
