*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

I meant the UK prices really. Do you even get a warranty on a US-sourced iPad?

I thought it was pretty obvious but I'll spell it out for you - US pays $499, we pay £599 - for the same product. I guess you're perfectly happy with that though. Would you like a kick in the balls to go with it? I can wear some Apple branded boots if it helps.

Out of idle curiousity how much higher could Apple price it before you started to even consider whether you were possiby being exploited at all - £699? £799?

Apple warranty is International, once the Ipad is released in this country.

I really don't get why what other people pay for stuff or choose to buy gets up peoples noses so much, if someone chooses to be exploited that is there right, let it go!

Ah well at least that's peace of mind about the warranty.

I don't necessarily agree with you on the second point though. I personally think it's ridiculous that we should have to pay an entry fee of £599 when in the US the same model is $499. The logistics of shipping them to the UK don't justify such a huge disparity in price, and I'm of the opinion that people who swallow that are basically part of the problem (i.e. if the market will sustain the price).

I actually agree with you about the US/UK pricing, but it's not only Apple that do this, I have noticed a lot of places doing basically a 1:1 conversion rate on goods.
That is why I have bought it from the USA, a few pounds cheaper and possibly a month earlier :)

You're mad if you think it's going to be that expensive. The US price has been well publicised, and the Apple UK site says: "A magical and revolutionary product at an unbelievable price". They won't fail to deliver on that.

It will be comparable, possibly slightly more expensive due to business being more expensive over here. There are no other Apple products that have an 83% hike in price between the US and the UK.

I hope you're right.

One thing to remember about Apple, is they want to keep they're products exclusive and sell them to certain demographics of people. They've done their marketing and they will know what price point to go in at to get the number of sales that they want. They have good econimists working on their supply/demand models.

They will also price based on the income profile of the nation, generally people in the UK earn more than people in the US, same with UK v France. One of the reasons they make it so hard to import from the US. Amazon took a differnt policy from Apple with the Kindle in that you bought it form the US. Although then you had to add on £60+ for import duties.

Also they have to convert it to right hand drive :-) so I'm sure that adds to the expense.

Simple fact is they don't want Jonny from the Hood owning an iPad they want city types/geeks/brand style people owning them.

Remember they dictated to each telco operator what price they can sell the phones for. It would have been entirely possible for all the operators to sell iPhones at zero cost based on the monthly tariff/duration, but apple refuse to allow them to do that.

Apple take total control over the prices etc. The mobile operators are not even allowed to advertise the iPhone on the same page as another competitors phone and all adverts for iPhones must be approved by Apple.

It will be the sme with the iPad, if you want ot be an official reseller then you will stay at the Apple price point. Though this may not stop certain companies buy passing Apple and sourcing from different areas.
