Anybody seen the roundup of tablets from the Consumer Electronics Show 2011.
12 / 18 months ago the rants about the ipad filled the internet. Search the phrase pointless ipad and you get tons of results, full of people saying the ipad is pointless, nobody needs one, it doesnt even have a keyboard etc..etc..

In all fairness the ipad is a pointless device...nobody does need one (yes I have one)...heck even I don't need one! But it's useful for some things .... Bput I can defiantly live without it.

Yeah but in the same sense people could live without iPhones/other smart phones. I do agree though and I have one as well.

the Creative labs Nomad Jukebox was out way before ipod (2000 i think) but was the size CD player.
The Ipod in true Apple way of things took the idea of a harddrive based MP3 player (back in them days to get any good amount of music you needed a hard drive relay) refined the design (as i said the Nomad was huge) and then made it so an idiot can get music on the thing back in V1.0 in October 2001.
The only thing Apple did that was "new" was Itunes and they came out with that at the right time with not much else like it back in 2003.
Same with the iphone and ipad to a point as well.
So Apple making completely new products no way, polished up an existing product/product and making it appealing to the mass market for better or worse Yes.

hardly makes it a different product just an mp3 player with firewire then 2 years later itunes

and yet 8 years later still nobody has anything near as good as itunes which is why it completely owns the MP3 download market.
over 50 % share of all downloads or something silly ?

why do people even bother about how "bloated" an application these days ?
When we've got terrabytes of storage and as much memory as x86 machines can handle ( and sometimes more) who cares how much memory it uses ?
If you're just a computer user and don't obsess about the organisation and cleanliness of your hard drive, itunes is great.

iTunes is great. I agree that past a certain version (like v6 or 7 on windows) it got more sluggish but its still simple enough to use.
I have on both Mac and PC, and while in my opinion the iTunes for Mac is lightyears faster/better use than the windows one, it doesn't make the windows version bad...
Now theres something I hate, Windows Media Player, horrid thing which granted has improved a bit but I still don't like it.
Each to their own I suppose.

iTunes is growing on me, but I only ever use it for syncing my iPad. I certainly don't intend to use it for anything else. My main gripe with it is the lousy way it deals with my video library. I have maybe 100 videos, and they're all organised on the filesystem in folders by type (film, series etc), then by series title, then season etc. In iTunes, they all get lumped into the same list, which makes navigating to a particular title a chore. A simple tree view control would make it so much easier.
