*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Zagg Invisible Shield installed.

Only got the back section as I have the smart cover.

First impressions, just like the one on my ip4 I cant fault it, no orange peel look/effect, simple to apply and from experience with the ip4 totally scratch resistant.

Only £20 from flee bay, I recommend!

Would love to see some pictures of said shield applied on iPad 2.

never found a need for a shields on my ipad - iphone sits in pockets with coins & keys, but iphone is always treated a little more carefully...

that said i never put a cover on my ip4, and have found it scuffing against keys with no damage at all, yet my old 3G got a nasty scuff on day 2 from what i don't know. Have they changed the glass?

Wondering if anyone can help with a Gmail issue please?

My work email is forwarded to Gmail because it is the best spam filter. When you set up gmail on iPad using the Gmail wizard it doesn't allow you to set a reply to address so all my emails come from my Gmail address which looks unprofessional. There is a way around this by setting up the mail account manually which then lets you set a different reply to address.

However this results in a niggly little problem where there is no button to archive the mail and there is no option to enable archiving in the settings. You can still archive by moving the mail to the All Mail folder but it is much easier with the button.

Does anyone know if there is a way to sort this?

Not sure Jambo, but...

If you're doing it via IMAP, then I think you can set how 'deleted' items are treated in the main GMail settings page.

If you'e doing it via 'Exchange' option, then deleting is actually archiving anyway (which I absolutely hate!) and also just the last couple of days Google have changed the GMail so if you set a default from/reply to address in the main GMail settings the Exchange option will also respect that setting. - http://www.macworld.com/article/160565/2011/06/google_sync_updates_ios.html

About to get myself a new sim card for ipad data plan - would you guys recommend the seemingly great 3 rolling 15gig/month contract, or stick with my cut down o2 payg 500mb/month if I top up a tenner?

On the face of it, it seems like a no brainer - not sure of 3's reputation though! Any steerage would be appreciated.

Anyone here ever bought an iPad from the official Apple Refurb store?

I bought an iPad 1 a few months ago, 32GB version for £399 but took it back after two days as impulse buyer syndrome hit me! I couldn't justify spending that much on a device I know I wouldn't get a whole lot of use out of so I took it back and got a full refund.

I'm considering getting the 1st gen iPad when they hit the refurb store and the price is considerably lower but what are your guys thoughts? Any bad experiences with the Refurb Store?

They will be as new with 1 year warranty. Just not in the shiny apple box.

But honestly as I'm typing this on my gen 1 iPad I would not concider buying one new now.

Apple typically only supports a product for 2-3 years from launch and the gen 1 came out early last year. When you consider you could still buy an iPhone 3G brand new 12 months ago and how poorly they have aged just compared to the iPhone 4 and iOS 4 which came cout 12 months ago also. It's just something to think about if your considering a gen1.

The gen2 has twice the power as the gen1, this industry is moving at a seriously rapid pace.

Im pretty sure with the new HDMI out cable you can mirror your screen on the TV from both iPad 1 and 2, so you would be able to do this for iPlayer also.

Something I want myself, but Im just going to wait until iOS5 where I'll be able to do this wirelessly to my Apple TV.

They are selling every iPad2 they can make. This definatly wont happen.

Edit: just look on the apple store, its still ships in 1-2 weeks after all this time

Well, reviews are flooding in all over for the competing tablets, and one common theme:
called Flash video performance “crippling and unacceptable!"

Seems Ipad isnt the only device which cant do flash, no matter how much the competition tell us otherwise.
