*** The all new Apple iPad thread - Keep all iPad stuff in here ***

Anyone feel that the screen resolution needs to be greater?
Yeah. If the little iPhone gets the 960x640 screen that's expected, then the iPad having 1024x768 looks pretty weak.

I suppose these are different from normal computer displays, because it's less about 'real estate' and more about the fidelity of font rendering etc. Which is quite important for the iPad if it's to become the ultimate eBook reader.

Can anyone confirm that when you buy a book, newspaper, comic etc it actually downloads it totally to the iPad and doesn't need a Wifi or 3G connection to access the material e.g. the way the Kindle does or the way an MP3 is totally downloaded.

Cheers

USA Warranty?

Without wanting to scare you guys, what's your source for the idea that a USA iPad will be covered under warranty here?

I was in the local Apple store today (see http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18141781) and in chit chat with the genius..

Me: Any ideas on a date for the iPad yet?
Genius: Nope, we'll only find out the same time as you.
Me: Oh right. Got some colleagues in the states right now, and it's awefully tempting...
Genius: Yeah loads of people have been getting them from the states, aswell as it being available now they're saving a fair bit of money. Only problem is that if it ever needs warranty work or the battery replacing they'll only be able to have it done in the states.
Me: Blimey, didn't know that! Even once they're released over here?
Genius: Yep, even once they're released here a USA iPad will only be covered in the USA.

Not what I was told by the manager of the 5th Avenue store in NYC. And not what the fine print of the warranty/terms inside the box say.

Obviously they can't fix it in the UK until the UK release, but apart from that, it's worldwide.

Hmm, is there an online version of that you can quote?

Thing is, that's directly opposite of what the Genius in the store told me, though whilst I admit he may just have been protecting a potential sale they could make, he seemed like a decent guy .

I've found http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/NA_iPad_Warranty_v20.pdf and selectively quoting some parts...

MAY restrict. They don't.

This has been discussed to death on the Macrumors forums so I'm not going to just repeat stuff from there.

Edit:

Okay, in an effort to get a solid handle I'm on hold to an Apple UK Support Technician who's finding out the answer for me.

And the answer is: US iPADS CAN BE SERVICED IN THE UK, AND VICE VERSA.

I asked, and asked again, and triple asked. I made it clear I had to be sure before buying a US model that if I had a problem with it I would NOT need to have it sent back the US. She said she understood my fears but she assured me that it has an international service policy. "Are you absolutely positively sure?" Yes, sir, you don't need to worry.

So there you go. That was me calling the UK number for Apple Customer Service.

From one of the posts about this.

Same account just manage them separately.

So its kind of like having two user accounts on 1 windows pc?

Different settings for different devices connected to itunes?

I assume the app/movies/music library will be the same though and shared?

Kind of wondering how that would work when you have apps specifically for the iphone which only work on the iphone and ones for ipad which are ipad only....
