A few people now have mentioned a stylus... would that actually work since the iphone doesn't respond even if you use your fingernails? so its not actually pressure but some sort of electrostatic wizardry, which wouldn't work with a stylus surely?

I can definitely see the appeal for taking notes or using arty apps but only if the stylus was excellent quality and would definitely not scratch the screen in the slightest...

EDIT: after posting this, I had a bit of a read... doesn't look particularly possible since the capacitive touch screen is specifically designed for fingers, so an input might look like:

so it needs to see a kindof finger shape and works out a centre point, if it saw the odd high value (like the 3 and the 4 at the left which would result from a stylus) then it would see it as noise and ignore it...

I'm sure its a lot more complicated than that, but you get the gist ;)

I have a Pogo Sketch, imported from the US. Works great.
 
Just ordered a PAYG MiFi from three for £49.99.

Will see how it goes with their PAYG sim for the time being with my MBP.

I'm thinking if a good monthly data sim crops up with another provider I can unlock the device and use the other network's sim.

I am going to be doing the same, i wouldnt mind carrying the small thing around with me knowing i saved £100 on iPad case plus gained a wifi connection for the iPad/laptops/phones when we are out on business or other.

At the moment, i think three is actually the best signal and speed anyway?
 
Also going for the Mifi option if I decide I need it! Either the Three option or unlock it stick another carrier SIM in.

I think if you get the PAYG one you get the best of both. For instance I can try out the three coverage by topping up as and when I need it, but if a good value unlimited web sim becomes available (from another network) I can unlock and use that instead.
 
Anyone got any comments on the screen of the iPad?

Mine seems to get fingerprints/smears a lot more than my iPhone 3GS.


Plus it's now covered in beer and nachos from luch @ pub. :(

Oh, and the Chief Financial Officer at work has decided he wants one :p.

I bought a pack of microfiber cloths, a quick wipe and it looks untouched again :)

Anyone using a mi-stylus? I know someone using a Pogo Stylus and recommends it but it's quite pricey to get in the UK.

Thanks for that, I was looking at a stylus and just orderd one of those as those pogo ones seemed kinda pricey as there doesn't appear to be a UK seller.

Looks worth a try at that price.

What do you reckon my chances would be of getting an iPad on the 28th from the Apple shop? Don't want to queue up and leave empty handed when I could have pre-ordered and get one shipped by the 7th June.
 
Made up my mind on the iPad:
Just went to the cash machine, figured i would have like £230 left in my bank if i bought the 16gb wi-fi model and some decent case. So though the temptation is big i will have to say no as i would like money left over in my bank. I try to never go below £500

Woot!

Got my two O2 Pay-As-You-Go SIM cards in the post today.

So I've just got home from work and topped it up by £10 and attacked it with a knife.


iPad is now using 3G :D


So £10 got me 300 texts and "unlimited" internet for the month..... wonder what the bandwidth limit will be...

My 2x free O2 SIMs arrived today.

For those who haven't read the thread/missed it..

You top up £10 and get 300 messages + unlimited data. Obviously, the messages are redundant, but with a little scissor action you can have a nice iPad SIM for £10, and it's contract free :)

EDIT: Westyfield.. did you have a template to cut from?
