Tell me about it, I've ordered a £50 Dodocase and I dont even have the ipad yet. I am going to wait until i have the case before i get it. I can wait and use my netbook until then, like right now on the train moving at 80mph.

Yeah, it's crazy really. Bloody Apple :p

For instance my shopping list would probably be:

32GB 3G iPad £599
Some form of case £30-50
A stylus for notes £10-15
Data sim £10 a month

It's getting a bit much considering I already own an iMac, MBP and iPhone. Am I talking myself out of it? :p
 
For me the 3G isn't something I need. My phone can cover out and about. Yes the 3G would be useful, for me, in the showing off phase of having an iPad but once that's out of the way it won't really be leaving my house, or houses of others with WiFi.
 
Needing 3G or not depending how much you use it outside. I commute to work with a 90 min train (direct) journey everyday so 3G is a godsend on the move. At home I don't use my netbook now,and I don't think i'll use the iPad much at home, I'll continue to use my PC/Mac at home. I don't need to check the net every minute at home so I don't imagine holding the ipad constanty checking Facebook status or the news.

I would probably use mine quite a lot at home, but also quite a bit when visiting clients and commuting.

I'm thinking maybe the MiFi route would be better for me. I could get that on PAYG from 3 and only top up when I know I've got some meetings/journeys on that week. I would also be able to use this with my MBP at the same time.

Anyone else thinking of getting a MiFi? Can you top up with 3 online?

I imported the wifi version as I have a mifi. I use a contract SIM I already had though, so I'm not certain about PAYG.

How have you found it? Is the signal/speed decent?

tbh I wouldn't mind paying a £10 a month data contract with it either but I'm not sure 3 offer a decent one.

Is the MiFi device from 3 locked?
 
What's everyone planning for cases, there seems to be countless available but everyone seems to be asking a lot of $$ for them.

EDIT:

The ones that stand out so far that I have seen are:

Belkin Grip Vue $50/£?
Hardcandy Bubble Case $50/50EUR?!
Switcheasy Nude $30/30EUR?! +15$/15EUR shipping!
Dodocase $50/£50ish

I like how $30 always turns in to 30 Euro's.

Yeah, would be interesting to hear what people are doing about accessories in general too.

In particular, is anyone thinking about getting a stylus? I think it would be great for me to be able to do hand written notes for example.

I get decent speeds from it yeah, better than the connection from O2 on my iPhone.

The hardware is locked, but can be unlocked easy enough.

From the video's and reviews I've seen when you use it as a stand the front cover no longer sits flush with the screen.

6 of us have ordered the Dodocase and in 4-6 weeks time, once Gabe has handmade them all (and all the others he's making), we'll get them.
 
A few people now have mentioned a stylus... would that actually work since the iphone doesn't respond even if you use your fingernails? so its not actually pressure but some sort of electrostatic wizardry, which wouldn't work with a stylus surely?

I can definitely see the appeal for taking notes or using arty apps but only if the stylus was excellent quality and would definitely not scratch the screen in the slightest...

EDIT: after posting this, I had a bit of a read... doesn't look particularly possible since the capacitive touch screen is specifically designed for fingers, so an input might look like:

so it needs to see a kindof finger shape and works out a centre point, if it saw the odd high value (like the 3 and the 4 at the left which would result from a stylus) then it would see it as noise and ignore it...

I'm sure its a lot more complicated than that, but you get the gist ;)

I got a stylus for my iPad. It has a chunky end like a crayon. Works well in the writing apps. Was only about £2 off the bay.
 
What is the situation with everyones order? i had a bit of hassle with mine, tried one card (an amex) got declined by the bank, i then tried it again and got a different message basically saying contact your issuer (they had clearly blocked it with it been so much money), I then tried a Mastercard which it took, however no money has been taken? and on ringing the bank they said they haven't tried to take the money either? am i likely to have problems closer to the 28th? who has had money taken?

With credit card orders Apple don't take the money they instead have the funds put on hold in your account so you cannot spend them on anything else, if you look at the available funds on your credit card it should show the amount the iPad costs missing but not show in on your cards current balance.

I believe they take the money straight away if you don't use a credit card to pay.

OK so I am in Boston at the moment visiting a friend and have spent a rather extensive period playing with ipads in the apple store. My friend really wants to buy one, however there are 2 major problems which have put him off (and me). There are plenty of really good things about the ipad but here are our two MAJOR grudges:

1) No wireless syncing. You have to walk the thing upstairs and plug it into your computer in order to get things of itunes

2) No search of all files on the ipad. It only searches native ipad apps. So you cant have 200 documents on it and search for a particular one.

For us, those are killers for a first gen purchase. The idea Apple sells is great but in reality it doesnt quite work.
 
^^Some good points there but remember your fault 1 can be rectified ;) as it is now possible to do this.
Anyways i have now cancelled my 'pre order' as i can no longer see a proper reason for getting one and im just going to stick to my Ipod Touch i think :)..

I got the Fossil case. $40. Looks absolutely awesome, and smells soo nice!
