I've always suspected that Apple limit supply to increase demand, much like Nintendo did with the Wii.

They obviously didn't learn from the iPhone 3G/3GS launches.

If you look at the demographics of the people Apple target with their products they tend to be ones that are not affected as much by the recession. Also these groups of people are more likely to give up something else to get hold of the latest gadgets.

Like Ferrari and Porche and other upper level brands, they have not been hit that hard during this current recession.

And when you stack it into the car in front because you're too busy looking at the iPad, you get a facefull of screen where the airbag has gone off!
 
I've not had any real problems with the wifi except transfer does seem a little slow. Mine is currently connected on the 5GHz band to my Time Capsule, it's got an incredibly strong signal (because it's sitting on top of the TC) but it's showing a 39 Mbit/s transfer rate. It's an 'n' connection, that should be up at well over 200 Mbit/s.
 
I pre-ordered earlier today and they took the money straight away. I paid with a debit card but I think if you use a credit card they do what ElliorR said.
