*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Ive still got 'No service' after switching from o2 to Voda, and get the 'waiting for activation, this may take some time' message.

Is this normal? Ive had the phone since about 8:30am and its been connected to itunes since about 10am. is this one of those 'may take up to 24hrs' things?

Vodafone do not issue temporary numbers so the phone will not activate until the port of your number from O2 is complete which takes 3 working days so your phone should activate on Monday.

Whats all this nonsense about the antenna? Nothing seems to affect my signal no matter what hand it is in.

Get solid 5 bars of signal, which is pretty much a 99% improvement from my 3G

Decided to pop the micro-sim that i got when I got the phone and hey presto it activated straight away

Loving it tbh was worth the 5 and half hour queue I endured at 6.30am, luckily my boss wasn't that fussed that I rolled into work at gone 12pm :p

Anyone noticing that o2 are taking forever to activate new sims today? Should've done it before :(

Mine's been 5 hours or so now and still nothing

Arghhh  I did mine about 8pm, been almost 2 hrs now and still not activated. My mate did his earlier in the day and it was done within half an hour. Let me know when yours is done, as mine will probably be a short while after...

Well, I know I'm a few pages too late now but a little update on my earlier issues.

Firstly, I now have a fully activated micro SIM in my iPhone 4. It took a total of 6 and a half hours from first switching the phone on and connecting it to my PC for it to happen. It also took a manual reboot of the phone.

Secondly, despite my inability to actually get the Swap My SIM thing to work on the O2 site, my number has carried over to the new SIM and my old 3GS SIM no longer functions.

So yeah, happy now, it just took a while which you can kinda understand given just how many activations of micro SIMs must have occured today.

Oh and my phone seems to be functioning perfectly too. No yellow spots on the screen and so far, no obvious signal issues.

Question regarding your old iPhone;

I wanted to give it to my g/f, obviously my sim doesn't work in it anymore but do I still have to ask for an unlock code from o2? I have tried popping her vodfone sim in but it didn't play ball. Problem is having looked online it seems that when you request an unlock code it goes against your mobile number thus your new phone

Why is there such a low stock? Surely they know how demanding it is, why only give some stores like 40 handsets when around 90-100 people are going to be lining up outside [\rant]

Managed to pre-order one from CPW - stock 'should' be arriving on the 2nd of July. Not much of a wait I guess.

For the small time I have used mine, I did check the screen as thoroughly as I could and noticed nothing unusual about the screen. Infact, I was impressed with how sharp the text and images are in comparison to the 3G.

So hopefully when the sim is activated, I can test out the reception issues and report back...

Funny story - While I was in the apple shop entering my card details chatting to the apple employee, I noticed a few of the bumper cases open in front of me and had a look at one...

Me: I have heard you need one of these?

Apple guy: Yeah, they are REALLY good...

Me: No, I mean NEED them due to reception issues reported on some of these new iphones

Apple guy: There are absolutely no issues with this new iphone

Me: Have you seen any of the reports on the internet?

Apple guy: Yes, there are non, they are our competitors spreading lies...

Me: Ah right, I see.

Apple guy: So do you want one then?

Me: No thanks

:p

After a few more hours of playing with my iphone 4 I'm still loving it. Not found any issues so far apart from the yellow blob in the bottom left corner of my screen, which seems to be fading already as it is nowhere near as dark as it was earlier. Also, my wireless doesn't keep losing the connection and ask for the WPA key every few minutes like my 3G did.

Very happy :D

You need an O2 SIM in the iPhone for it to unlock. It's free if it's contract, or £15 if PAYG.

Fill out the form online, and a message is sent to the iPhone. Once you get the message saying that it's now unlocked, you plug it into iTunes, it connects to the activation server, and your iPhone is then unlocked.

The wait comes from O2 having to update Apple's activation server with the IMEI of the iPhone, signifying that it can now take any SIM.

TL;DR: Buy a PAYG SIM from O2, top up £15, unlock it.

iphone never arrived today bloody UPS , they class aberdeen as highlands and islands what crap! if apple knew that they shouls have dispatched them aday early
