*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

The droid fans love to opportunity to knock the iPhone down a few pegs and the people that bought them and emoing that their new toy doesn't work properly.

Personally I'd be furious if I'd just bought one and it had this issue. Would be going straight back for a refund not a replacement.

Fans of either Apple or otherwise aside - there are a huge majority of people who actually have the iPhone 4 voicing discontent over it, and rightly so.

I still cant understand how people can deem it acceptable.

Talk of putting bits of tape to bridge the gap(s)?! :p

Decided to bite the bullet and ordered a sim free one from Apple, but 3 weeks. Arghhh and I've just sold my 3GS on Ebay so no iPhone for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully they'll get them out quicker than that.

Does anyone know the safest way to completely wipe a 3GS so no data can possibly be retreived?

Cheers

What a good idea! That would solve the problem no matter how you held the phone, and not that much of a big deal to apply - could even be done in store while-you-wait and not have to replace or send the phone away.

I wonder if aftermarket 'bottoms' will appear!

From watching the Apple promo video I think from memory its one continuous stainless steel band.

Cheers

Really? Steve highlights the gaps at keynote and goes on about how great it is though  Seems odd if its different in the promo. However it is Apple we're talking about here, theres always something that never seems to add up.

Anyone have a good insurance company to go with?

First ime vie bought the phone outright and, well, feeling edgy it's not covered!

I disagree. I hold my new £600 iPhone 4 in the palm of my hand, and load up Safari and start to browse. Within 20 seconds, I'm off 3G and onto Edge if I'm lucky. Every other time it skips Edge.

This DOES make a difference to me using the device. The article writer can make all the sarcastic points he likes about turning the phone over and the screen not being visible, but the point remains that when I pick my phone up it doesn't work as well as it does sitting on a desk.

That in my opinion, and it may differ to others, is not the level of quality I expected when paying for the device.

A significant part of the value of an Apple product is the user experience. So far, my experience of the iPhone 4 has been mediocre. There's so much else to like about the phone - the screen is fantastic - but this is a big issue for me, as I use a lot of data and make enough calls for it to be a problem.

Same here, I cannot browse the internet (on 3G) when holding the phone as I normally would hold (even my 3GS) any phone. I have changed the way I hold the phone in calls which seems to have helped, but again I don't particularly want to change the way I hold the phone! Having said all that modifying my 3GS case (to accomodate the 4) has led to the iPhone 4 being usable like it was intended, and that is honestly an awesome experience!

Nope, it's in three isolated sections. Hense the issue when you bridge two of the sections together with a clammy hand.

My understanding is that the aluminium band is part of the phone structure itself.

Wow, after reading about these issues here (and all over the internet) I am kinda glad Orange messed me around with my order and I decided to cancel it. Might just wait and see if a fix comes out...
