Utena box 3 is up for pre-order at rightstuf now, so I've placed an order for that, school rumble S1 and 2 (can't see more than disc one on UK sites), and Arakawa under the bridge (my second NIS title).

Urgh ... don't really have a high opinion of Arakawa at all to be honest.

And in more pre-order news, Whisper of the Heart Blu-ray/DVD combo is up for November 21st on various sites, ranging from around £16 and up.
I think it took me about 30 seconds from reading that news on ANN to hitting "order".

You took that long :) .... actually I haven't ordered it (as it'll be on my Christmas list).

Finished re-watching Sora no Woto last night.

Really nice little series, which could do with another, which takes your usual collection of moe characters and enlists them in a post-apocalyptic world. The series is surprisingly emotional at times with characters having to deal with post-traumatic stress, the death of a sibling and alcohol fuelled groping.

I watched the Nozomi release which has dual subtitle tracks (one with honorifics) and a nice booklet. The series is also available (well kinda, given their issues from the other week) from Beez in the UK.

Watching both Death Note live action movies today, so far they're shaping up well and the voices of the actors match up to the anime counterparts nicely!

Ryuk also looks awesome :D

Finished off Wolfs Rain this afternoon :)overall I enjoyed it,even with a few filler/recap episodes.Would have like more closure,or a `happier` ending but the ending was good enough I suppose ,Last 5 eps were meh imho though
Made a start on an old baseball animé called cross game this eve only up to ep 6 atm but I think i will like it enough to finish.
Usual storyline nothing special about it so far

He looks cheesy as hell to be honest. But at least they got the same anime voice actor for him though.

Don't forget the "L" spin-off movie as well.

Had a re-watch this weekend of Saki. Nice series about a high school mahjong team trying to qualify for a national competition. There's a good selection of characters and it's an interesting series ... although I'd imagine that it's even better if you understand mahjong.

Whilst the series does come to a form of conclusion it is obviously left for a second series, even down to ending sequence of the final episode having potential scenes from what is liable to happen. A new TV series project was announce back in June so hopefully it will be as interesting as the first.

Also watched the latest episode of Hanasaku Iroha ... interesting developments particularly the last line pre-closing credits ... rather unexpected and a twist from what the rest of the episode, and it's title, had been concentrating on. The last scene was handled nicely too with a nice flashback.

edit:
Ok, 5cm/s on BD (along with Voice of a Distant Star) ... out November 18th ... with English subs and dub ... the downside, it's a Japanese release and probably explains why we haven't seen a UK BD release so far. The other downside is that it's out in November, the same month as Hoshi o ou Kodomo is also getting its Japanese BD (English subbed) release.

I've not been watching that much since I got back off holiday. Finished Tonagura, and bar some bits round a mates house, haven't watched anything since. I think at the moment I'm stuck in that awkward point where:
A) I'm doing plenty of other stuff
B) I'm not sure what to watch next!

Watched King of Eden as well around my mates house. It's not bad, but I can see what the reviews meant about it suffering as the 'middle', at only 1hr 20, its relatively short for a film, and does distinctly feel like the first half of a series in that it sets a load of things up, but doesn't particularly go anywhere in itself.

It's not a bad film though, still amusing etc at times, but I do think the main series, Eden, is better than King. That said, it may well be a case that its a lot better when viewed as a longer whole with the second film so I'll give it a shot then :)

One thing we also watched though was the first episode of Toradora!, and I'd almost forgotten how good the series can be, genuinely bought a smile to my face so I'll likely watch that again soon. The unfortunate thing is I would watch the DVDs I've got because the picture should be decent, but the DVD sub quality seem ancient by modern fansub standards, so I'll probably stick with my 'other' copy for the rewatch.

Just watched the first episode of Carnival Phantasm.

Good funny stuff when you consider the serious tone of the main series it derived from.

The Blackbeard Lucky Stab game was just so perfectly appropriate.

The announcement of Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code for the PC is also good news to for those who are into it.

I might take a look at Carnival Phantasm, I haven't seen much Type Moon stuff, know nada about Melty Blood and had my gripes with Tsukihime and F/SN but I've seen it mentioned in so many places I may well end up looking just to see what everyone's going on about :D

Oh and decided the next series I was going to watch; the completely unexpected choice of 11 Eyes as it was sitting in my collection unloved, took a peek and liked the potential for it to be dark and have lots of dark fantasy and magic/gothic symbolism.

And if it turns out to be no good, no skin off my back as it was a completely random choice anyway.

Finished watching Elemental Gelade earlier. Not being a gamer I went into watching this blind and was quite pleasantly surprised with it overall. Yes at times it does feel a bit "battle of the week" and the recaps at the beginning of each episode do become a bit tiresome but overall it's a reasonably nice, simple, story with some quite touching moments.

Oooo .... Arrietty is up for pre-order on BD and DVD on Amazon UK with a release date of 21/11

I got a nice surprise this morning, well two.

One was that my Rigthstuf order arrived a little sooner than expected, and the other is that Spice and Wolf S2 on blu-ray appears to be region A/B :D (I glanced at the back of the packaging as I put it on the shelf), if S1 is also AB I may order the blu version of that at some point.

Also, Wagnaria is in a big package :p

oooh I'll order Arrietty :)

Did you get the premium or non-premium set for Wagnaria ... if it was the premium set then yes, it's rather large :)

If no-one has answered the region question on Spice and Wolf season 1 by the time I get home I'll take a look as it's on my "to watch" pile, along with the second Eden of the East movie and a few other bits and bobs ...

Aye, I got the premium version of Wagnaria, it's the same size as some of my Warhammer hardback rulebooks :)

Cheers, if you could as I can't see the info online anywhere :) (Roberts anime corner store has a partial list of Funi blu-ray region codes, but it doesn't look to have been updated for a while).

That was cunning :D

Unfortunately as you say it looks like it's A only :(
Mind you didn't Manga say something about releasing it here, or is that my wishful thinking affecting my memory :p

Well planetaxel are showing it as region free but then it is either a mistake by someone falsely reporting it as region free or there has been another muck up with production where the set was meant to be region A only but was made region A+B (just like what happened with the soul eater part 1+2 set but the other way around) or the back cover has a error where is only showing zone A where it is meant to show zones A+B.

Despite the disks and box/o-ring all indicating region A only both disks appear to load fine when my players are set to region B (whilst a region A locked disk gives an error)
