The AMD Driver Thread

Oh dear oh dear..... Seems people can't accept good discussion points and so have to talk in here about it instead so as to not have their arguments destroyed

It's difficult to have a debate in that thread as it largely just comes down to trolling, one-upmanship and conspiracy theories.

Yup it definitely is when you have people who keep their fingers in their ears and aren't willing to hear out perfectly valid points raised especially when the developers themselves have said they can reproduce the issues.... :o

As for driver experiences, I had no issues with amd when I had my 3850, 4850, 7850, 290 (well did have a lot of blue/black screens but think it was something else in my system causing the issue i.e. a compatibility issue with the 290) and vega 56. Have not had any issues with nvidia either. All in all, PC gamers like to tweak too much with OC, voltage, UV etc. etc. which is probably 95% of the time you see people saying they have crashes etc. Definitely AMD age better though (wish I kept my vega 56) but then again, with nvidia, at least you have the performance from the get go and don't have to wait months to see the untapped power, it's a bit odd tbh given amd power the consoles so you would expect it to be the other way round.

People wanted (pretended?) AMD to compete and then they would entertain them. Sadly look what we have, yes performance is close enough but now the cost of a card is more then nvidia.. we will also have intel to contribute next year and see how the landscape lies then.

Myself I just get what is available and roll with the punches. No card will be without its issues at some stage. Convincing oneself that your current brand/purchase for whatever theory going on in their head to argue on the internet is some strange syndrome nonetheless its not going away!

Got a strange one here. I upgraded to 20.10.3 other day not played a game since. My son was using my computer playing FIFA 22 and I came up to have a look and the screen was flickering really badly like the refresh rate was wrong.
I said how can you play like that, he said I hardly noticed it. It was bad believe me.

So I kicked him off tried a few things, still doing it in other games too. Static screen fine, only when playing a game. Took it back to 20.10.2 same thing, 20.10.1 same thing. Didnt have time to check it further. Just now tried various things
cant fix it. Then I thought Freesync.... right turn it off, flickering stopped. WTH.

Anyone else had this problem ?

all my older cards which memory escapes me where ok

and my r9-390 was rock solid for years

and no issues with the rx6700xt

Quick question. :)

Does the "global graphics" settings for games override the individual entries or is it the other way around? Reason I ask, I use FRTC to limit the frame rate to 59FPS (my monitor is 60Hz). I noticed recently in Far Cry 6 that during cut-scenes and in the menus I was getting coil whine and tearing. When I checked in the AMD software, I had a game tile for Far Cry 6 and the avg. FPS was in the hundreds. (Even with the in-game setting for FPS control set to 59FPS too). I deleted the specific game entry from the AMD software (in my mind meaing it will now be forced to use the global settings?), and it seems to be behaving itself now. I noticed that FRTC isn't in the invidiual game custom settings area. It only exists in the global section. So before I go and delete all the game entries from the AMD software, I just wanted to check that I was right in doing so.

Thanks.
