The AMD Driver Thread

When you mention it improved using 2 saperate cables it makes me think PSU , how much power does Threadripper 1920x even use during gaming ?

Do you have anymore PCIe slots on PSU just to try instead? Or does it only have 2 ?
Not sure how much it consumes during gaming but it's a thirsty CPU at the best of times. From memory I have at least one other PCIe slot on the PSU I can try and I think two.

I am inclined now to get a new PSU, 1000W, as it'll just be bringing the purchase forward a bit. I guess a little extra in postage as I'll get the rest of the build separately later. But it'll give me more confidence in the cause. And if it is the CPU I'll send AMD a big apology for blaming their drivers.

Highlights

  • Support for additional Vulkan® extensions.
    • Click here for more information.

Fixed Issues

  • Certain virtual reality games or applications may encounter suboptimal performance or occasional stuttering on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Application crash or driver timeout may be observed during playback of AV1 video content using DaVinci Resolve™ Studio.
  • Improvements to high idle power when using select 4k@144Hz FreeSync enabled displays or multimonitor display configurations (such as 4k@144HZ or 4k@120Hz + 1440p@60Hz display) using on Radeon™ RX 7000 series GPUs.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed playing WWE 2K23™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed after switching windows while playing Nioh 2™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 6800 XT.

Known Issues

  • Application crash may be intermittently observed while playing RuneScape™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 5700 XT.
  • Intermittent corruption may be observed around some player models while playing Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA Mega Mix+™ on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 6900 XT.
  • Stuttering may be observed while playing Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® II with Radeon™ Anti-Lag enabled. As a temporary solution, users encountering this are recommended to disable the Anti-Lag in the per-game settings.
  • Performance Metrics Overlay may report N/A for FPS on various games.
  • Display signal may be lost after switching windows on certain Adaptive-Sync enable displays on some AMD Graphics Products, such as the Radeon™ RX 7900 XTX.
  • Higher than expected GPU Memory Utilization when using certain Record and Stream settings such as Instant Replay.

Important Notes

  • Factory Reset has been temporarily disabled as a precautionary measure while we address isolated installation issues that have been reported during PC upgrades. Users may use AMD Cleanup Utility as a temporary option.

Do we have any idea when the next drivers from AMD will be released and if they'll be any more stable? I bought a 7900XT a few months back and get frequent crashes where the entire system locks up including peripherals. And typically I find drivers are uninstalled on reboot and I have to reinstall from scratch. This isn't during gaming but is during medium GPU use as I have been trying some ML loads. I'm on 23.5.2 currently. I don't care about bleeding edge, I just need my system to be stable so I can work. Do they do any "professional" drivers which are more stable or anything like that? I'm on the verge of returning the card or selling it. It's no good to me like this.

A follow-up to my 7900XT woes from the previous page. It was the PSU. I splashed out on a new Seasonic Vertex 1000W and put it in last week. Greatly improved things. So a big fat apology to AMD for blaming their drivers! :)
High end cards usually has spikes when they draw power that many psu may not handle properly either due to quality or to low ratings.
Its usually if every driver have issues its not likely the driver that is at fault.
(many install such and have no issues, millions in fact)

I had this issue years ago with a 2080Ti, it was more obvious what was going for me as it would trigger the OCP and the whole PC shut off requiring cycling of PSU power to restart.

Idle power on the new driver seems improved slightly but still a far cry from what I'm used to. 1x WQHD 165Hz is about the same as 60Hz (<20W) whereas on the last driver it was about double. Multi monitor is still high though (~75W).

So given the VR issue has now been fixed, anyone who uses these cards with VR able to confirm how performance is, or aware of any testing that can be referenced?

Possibly a contender against 4080/90, IF the performance in VR is good enough.

I'm having a problem installing the AMD drivers.

It says "error 202 - AMD software install cannot proceed as a windows update is currently in progress".

But there isn't. I'm fully up to date. Tried restarting pc a few times I'm still getting the error and unable to proceed.

Solved it. Had to manually stop the Windows Update service, then it allowed me to install.

Windows update is one of the few things in the world that makes my pee boil just thinking about it. The root of all evil and wrong doings. If it got removed over night the world would be 50% better to live in, spite the last 3 years of problems and conflict. Yes I HATE it that much. Most of my driver issues has been because of windows updates or the update service. Grrr.
