The AMD Driver Thread

If you're using the Swift still then it's not going to do anything regarding refresh rates. I really feel that is in the hands of Asus tbh.

That monitor uses non industry standard timings, unfortunately these particular timings don't work well with our graphics cards. However the FreeSync Acer and BenQ 144Hz displays will work perfectly at 144Hz with our new drivers, which launch tomorrow.

How you playing it already Matt, I can't seem to play it until Friday?

VPN gate, gives you a Korean IP. Once you've got into Battlelog disconnect the VPN and you can play normally.

Normally I'd just wait, but curiosity and Mantle got the better of me. The Frostbite engine runs so much better on Mantle than alternative solutions that i couldn't wait. :p

He's Bil Gates illegitimate son and gets all the goodies early :(.

:D

Hi MAtt yeah thats what i do i cap 100 as i have 120hz monitor with a mixture of high settings in my user.cfg file. Just trie dthe Punkbuster update by manually updating game and pointing PB to the exe and trying the older beta driver but still constant microstutter:(
Like i say BFH Single is fine the yellow CPU line is flat and on BF4 MP but on BFH its just up and down.
THanks for the advice though:)

Could be a server issue then maybe. What was the server size, as i noticed some weird lag on a 64 man server.

That's all I need it for. 4K on a 40 inch screen needs it.

Especially in this game with all it's straight jaggy lines!

Why do I get the feeling I am going to be disappointed?

Sorry Eyetrip, i don't think there will be an Elite Dangerous profile in these drivers. I've personally requested it myself though, so this may get added in a future driver update.

I'm not familiar with that game, but do any of the custom profiles work in the meantime? I'm told that AFR Friendly works quite well in terms of FPS and scaling, but some of the game menus and planet textures can flicker a little bit.

night time sucks for me on the 290 it goes all contrasty as soon as you turn your torch on it fixes it doesn't happen for the entire night either. For most of the night its fine but for parts i can barely see for just black clouds of contrast

Could you get me a screenshot of that please TwsT, that would be really helpful as I don't see that on my setup.

You may do. But I just tried to add it and it hasn't got a profile! and if it hasn't got a amd profile how will amd make the game\app run better on their cards?

Sorry Matt but the AMD drivers are a joke. We never know what profiles are active until we try to add a game\app.

A Crossfire profile has nothing to do with single gpu optimisations deuse.

We're right where we should be in this game single gpu performance wise, considering it's a Nvidia GameWorks title. :)

I am waiting for the crossfire profile before playing DL but have heard that maxing the view distance has a significant impact on performance. Do you see much visual difference between having it set at 100% vs say 50%?

It certainly uses a lot more video memory. :)

I'll grab one tonight at work at the moment Although I could see if i can replicate it on the 285 as it's the same drivers.

And yeah Mei Contrasty as in blurry clouds of dark pixelated cack. I didn't notice it till a few updates in.

It's definitely not right because half the night is fine and if I turn on the torch its fine. I know it's not normal because i completed the game before the problem started.

Thanks Twst, if it was introduced in a game patch then I'll still raise it as an issue so we can communicate it to the devs to be addressed in a future patch.

Say I want to add a profile for one game to another. You can't do that with AMD drivers.

There is no menu telling me what profiles are working and what for. NV have a drop down menu with all the games
so you can pick and chose what profile for what game\app.
NV also scan your HD and showing you what profiles it has installed for you. AMD NOTHING.
AMD drivers don't recognise Doom BFG but NV does. That's just one of many AMD fail on.

You can add a profile to CCC too.

The last problem we had with Doom BFG edition was fixed two and a half years ago in Catalyst 13.8 Beta 2.

Feature Highlights of AMD Catalyst™ 13.8 Beta 2 for Windows
Doom 3 BFG: Corruption issues have been resolved

I've not played DoomBFG, but i understand it's pretty much identical to Doom3 apart from some different sound effects and a few improved textures. A single 290X will max that out without breaking sweat I'd have thought.

Matt, do you have any info on what the target driver release schedule is going to be after this release. Are we going to be waiting months between drivers from now on or is the plan to go back to monthly drops again? If it is going to be a longer period is there any chance of going back to a CAPs style update so we can at least get xfire profiles a bit quicker?

Same as last year, once a month or thereabouts.

What are you talking about?

You have a single card, you don't need to use any profiles either with Nvidia or AMD because the drivers do it all automatically.

What do you mean AMD drivers don't recognize Doom BFG? If you want to change settings in the AMD Catalyst control centre you would just point it in the direction of the Doom BFG .exe file and alter the settings you want and they would be applied to that game. I can see very few reasons to want to fiddle around with every game....Just change the global options and it'll be applied to everything

:)

Matt, BF4 has become very choppy and virtually unplayable since I added my 290 to the 295x2. Is their something I can try? I even tried 'Low' settings but it was exactly the same?

cheers

edit - Do you have that cfg file handy so I can check my figures out? Ta

Screenshot with an overlay running would be helpful Si.

Have you got the AMD Gaming Evolved APP running in your taskbar?

Is RadeonPro any good for things like frame caps and V-Sync?

I am locked in perpetual battles against torn frames and input latency, and often can't fight both problems at the same time.

Frame capping through riva has no significant latency but it doesn't eliminate tear completely. V-Sync eliminates tear completely, but depending on the game it can introduce awful latency. And afaik the CCC v-sync options only work with OpenGL games, though I could be completely making that up?

Low latency v-sync is possible (the "reduce input latency" checkbox on WoW makes a night-and-day difference, but I have no idea what it is actually doing). If RadeonPro can help I'll try that. Unless of course these oft-rumoured "new drivers" help in any way...

It can be useful in providing some more advanced tweaks that CCC does not offer. You can add or remove triple buffering, adjust the render ahead limit, enable Adaptive Vsync, set fps caps, many different things. I don't have the need for it much these days, but it can still be handy for some things.

Hi Matt.. do you think Adaptive Vsync would help out with stutter in DayZ?

Cheers :)

If the stutter is caused by using Vsync then maybe, but i think DayZ is a cpu bottleneck game so I'm unsure how effective this will be.

So, Matt, when can I expect crossfire for Elite?

The game has been out some time. Why has it not been looked at? Is there any guarantee it will be looked at? Or is it another game where the game itself is blamed and ignored?

Honestly, I don't know who I dislike more right now between AMD and Nvidia. Been waiting months for driver updates and both of the two games I would like to play currently are broken for crossfire - one, apparently won't ever get fixed (Cod:AW) and Elite, well, who knows? These aren't just released titles.

Plus, I have simply held off other games such as FC4, AC:U, because I know they have issues as well.

Awfully tempted to sell these cards on and go for a Titan X. The Titan may not perform as well as when crossfire works, but how often does crossfire work these days in all honesty?

The only thing giving me pause is I have it all under water, and I jsut didn't want to change hardware for a long time.

A Crossfire profile can only do so much, it cannot overcome issues with games themselves. If issues exist, it's up to the game developers to fix those and a Crossfire profile will not change that.

I can't give you a timeframe on Elite, but I've requested a profile for it so it may arrive in a future driver and i will push for it. Have you tried AFR Friendly for this title in the meantime?

Issues preventing Crossfire from being enabled in Farycry 4 have been resolved by the developer now, so we have a profile in our new drivers. We also have an improved profile for AC Unity, but again a profile will not overcome issues with the game.

As I've mentioned previously, COD:AW is not very friendly towards multi gpu setups, again this is not an issue a Crossfire profile can magically overcome.

Matt, any thoughts about the Prepar3d profile?

Cheers,

Simon

I will have to raise that one Simon.

I'm at 1080p at the minute but I am really having a toss up over getting the Iiyama 4k gaming monitor, but it's only 60hz, 28 inch one. Or going all out and getting a ROG swift.

I've never seen 4k or over 60hz so it's racking my brain a little.

thanks for the replies guys

I would not recommend using the Rog swift as it uses non industry standard timings that unfortunately do not work well with our graphics cards.

I use the Ilyama screen you mentioned myself without issue.

I'd recommend one of these 144Hz panels instead of the Ilyama screen. :)
