The AMD Driver Thread

I have dying light and it doesn't run too well at 1080p for me :( Maybe the new drivers will help

60 fps v sync on (obviously) but does drop down to about 40 or so in fighting or large areas, on ultra this is, everything max. lowered the AA and stuff, works fine

I edited the post, it says now :)

I presume gpu usage drops when this happens too? I think that's an issue with the game I'm afraid. Unfortunately Dying Light only tends to use one cpu core/thread, as you can imagine this does cause some problems.

Search for Dying Light manager. It will allow you to set realtime cpu affinity and some other little tricks which can help this issue.

Turn v-sync off, as its bugged from what i read, as when i had it on, i was getting 40s, but with it off, its anywhere from 60-100+.

Yeah some spots where i was getting the 40s with v-sync on, with it off, i was getting 60+, which i should have been getting with v-sync on, as im on 144Hz.

Handy tip, thanks I'll have to try that when i next load it up.

Oh really? I'll have to give this a try.

EDIT: No difference, maybe a couple of frames.

Have you disabled all the GameWorks effects, HBAO+ and Depth Of Field?

This is obviously recommended for AMD users as we're unable to optimise these effects due to the black box libraries of GameWorks. :)

Wow.. that's made a massive difference and the game looks sooo much better!! Although, still sitting around 50 FPS but does jump up to about 130 FPS when looking at scenery

To quote an Italian/American mobster, perfect. :)

EDIT

Overclocking your cpu as much as possible will help, due the issue i mentioned previously. As will use Dying Light Manager and setting cpu affinity to REALTIME. :)

Does dying light have a crossfire profile or are you using afr?

I used the Hitman Absolution profile, but 1x1 Optimize seemed to work fine as well. YMMV.

Got around to trying Dying Light on 14.12.

Found either Hitman Absolution or 1x1 Optimize custom Crossfire profiles seem to work flawlessly with all settings maxed out and vsync on. :)

Tested at 1440P on a single 295x2.

I tried Dying Light with Hitman Absolution profile and it literally ran at less than 1 frame per second.

1x1 was better, but there were weird anomalies from graphical effects that stain your vision, such as blood and water.

This is at UHD resolution by the way

Yes Vincent i have to admit i found it worked well at 1080P/1440P but not so well at 4K.

Will removing the MSI warranty sticker void warranty on the cards? im thinking of getting one of those aio coolers because this heat is making my room smell like burnt rubber

if not im thinking of swapping them for a pair of tri x's

No it won't void the warranty, so long as you don't damage anything.

I tried Dying Light with Hitman Absolution profile but i get poor FPS when going on roof tops.. using 1x1 does the same.

also turning off cf gives the same~ FPS

Try with Vsync off.

Someone noted earlier when using a single 290X that you get more fps with vsync off, think it might be bugged in the game.

thats only for US i thought?

maybe thats only with laptops/pcs

OcuK and MSI allow it. :)

Cool, just noticed you put the Lightning up in the MM. What clocks did that one reach? Might grab another if there's any decent one's floating about.

It's already sold I'm afraid, however it did surpass 1300 with voltage. I don't know specifics as i never spent much time using it. It had an easy life sat in the second rig browsing the internet and watching vampire diaries online. :D

Its bad enough waiting for crossfire support but they completely dropped support for 7970 users when cards were replaced and fully expect them to do the same for 2** users.

That's not how it works, any Crossfire profile we have in our driver works across all of our graphics cards. Because the 7970 and the 290 use the same GCN architecture any performance optimisations for the 290 also work for the 7970 as well.

Need a bit of help. I've come from the green team and the NV drivers has a pull down menu
that tells you what games\apps you have installed and the settings for each one.
I see no such thing on the AMD drivers or am I missing something?

Add the game exe to CCC then you can browse all the crossfire profiles and settings we have in the driver. You can use this to tweak profiles etc for that specific title.

Thanks Matt. Can't they do a simple pull down menu like NV?
Sometimes it says "there is already a profile" but I can't see it. Why hide them?

It's pretty simple to change a profile for a certain application if you want to. Add the exe, if a profile exists go down to use AMD Pre Defined profile then you can apply any profile you want for that application. Or you can use a custom profile yourself of AFR Friendly or 1x1 Optimize.

You can still do it, and it's easy. But it's not guaranteed quality, a proper profile is better. Far Cry 4, for instance, has some visual glitch issues with AA which hopefully will be fixed with a proper profile. Going back to Crysis 2, there was a similar visual glitch for a month or so on launch till the proper profile came out, so I'm hopeful.

As i said last time, that is a game bug. A Crossfire profile cannot fix bugs within the game.

Matt also repeatedly said there was no fixed date for release, that they would be released when they are ready. We've since learned that the release date is the 19th, and has been set for a while, so Matt has taken a bit of a hit to his credibility, sadly.

Which was true at the time of posting.

The 19th is now the firm date for the FreeSync drivers and we can expect a lot of Crossfire improvements as part of this driver too.

I will give more specific details when i publish the driver and the release notes on the 19th.
