Hehe, up until now I've been pretty relaxed about the AMD driver releases as everything I play has been supported pretty well but I've just ordered the BenQ 1440p Freesync monitor so AMD really need to get these xfire Freesync drivers out quick ;)

I cant get my 290x to run less than max memory clock at 144Hz either.
I am sure Matt has commented about this in the past.
I use 120Hz to get around the issue too.

What was the result?

Can't remember because I returned the 144Hz screen some weeks ago to buy a Freesync screen later.

But it was significant enough to decide to use 120Hz in Windows and 144Hz in games. It's not only about the Vcore of the card but combined things like allowing the whole system with the card to enter various "Package C-States" (Intel CPU / not the CPU C-States) when the desktop idles for longer time, but also for microseconds.

The only thing I can summise from mantle from all the posts on the internet and now running 3dmark api overhead is that it only really helps underpowered AMD CPU's and mayby a little boost in un optimised machines. I was stupid enough to purchase battlefeild 4 (not really my sort of game) just to try mantle out on my R9 280X oops that should read 7970, the joke was on me.

I found that the gains were unremarkable for me with a 4790k and MSI 290x gaming, I run both at stock clocks and with the games I tested I was only seeing around 5-6 frame increases in the minimums and averages at 1080p but any gain is a welcome one.
