The AMD Driver Thread

Exactly the above, as a multi GPU user myself, some issues annoy me a little.

However, I don't tend to have time to play newer titles on release, so it isn't as bad for me, but that isn't to point. AMD should be more on the ball with this.

Personally I blame CD Projekt Red. If they had announced that they were going to release a 3rd Witcher game in advance then we wouldn't be in this predicament.

Is today the day the drivers finally arrive??! :o

Windows 10 keeps on installing the crap "Engineering Sample" driver which just crashes all the time. Had to turn off windows update to stop it from constantly reinstalling itself.

Well Roy said this week. If they don't arrive today, they won't be coming this week.

Yeah that was last week he said that, then this was posted this week (just a couple of days ago), so its changed.

AMD is committed to improving performance for the recently-released Project CARS and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. To that end, we are creating AMD Catalyst™ 15.5 Beta to optimize performance for these titles, and we will continue to work closely with their developers to improve quality and performance. We will release AMD Catalyst™ 15.5 Beta on our website as soon as it is available.

To be fair on AMD, there is not much they can do if Nvidia are not being fair with regards to Game Works.

But they've got to come up with a counter. Because at the moment nearly all AAA titles are either Game works or perform better on Nvidia hardware.

AMD need a solution to this problem.

I am not for vendor locking games however. I have a Nvidia GPU atm, so Game Works is great for me, but it would be a poor situation if AMD had to come up with a solution where they launched their own AMD works and this had poor performance on Nvidia hardware.

This situation is no good for gamers in general. Unfortunately it comes down to cash.

Nvidia sponsored cash vs saved money by using Open GL.

But one thing AMD need to 100% do which just exasperates the issue, is stay on top of the driver situation.

Well actually they could get involved during the games development phase and fight for their corner/customers if they had the will to, not sure how NVidia/GameWorks are to blame for AMD not bothering to release Crossfire profiles either.

I vote for AMD to do their own black box stuff that cripples Nvidias cards, if they have been doing it to AMD for all these years.

That would involve more software engineers to build and maintain a middleware product - something that is obviously against AMD's philosophy. I think it's a business that AMD doesn't want to get involved in.

It might even be unnecessary given that Mantle/Vulkan/DX12 is all about giving devs the ability to work without the DX black box, but it's certainly something that AMD should investigate because most devs would rather have someone else do the difficult work for them.

Maybe the closed source nature of the libraries makes developing drivers / Xfire profile difficult?

But then it comes down to cash. Open source is cheaper, but if a big company like Nvidia comes in and says use Game Works and will give you X amount of money and devs presumably, then the company making the game make the decision that it's makes sense finacially to go Nvidia.

AMD dont have the resources to do this.
