The AMD Driver Thread

Does the stuttering occur if afterburner is not running but CCC is?

Can't think of any logical reason why CCC would cause stutter, so my guess is something else is causing it.

Crossfire isn't working for me in Witcher 3, Crossfire disabled yields between 27-34fps or so, Crossfire enabled is ~ 17-34fps with flickering also. Not sure if my CPU is to blame.

Have you followed our support guide KB? This will help you ensure CrossFire is working properly.

Disable TemporalAA
Double check you're running Full Screen Mode and not Borderless
Disable in game AA

For extra perofrmance disable NVidia GameWorks effects, HairWorks and HBAO+. Alternatively you can keep HairWorks on, but remove the excessive tessellation with the slider in Catalyst Control Center.

It looks like it is the afterburner monitoring that may be causing my stuttering, if I pause it then the games are fine.

Interesting. Try enabling Unified Gpu Usage Monitoring, or try increasing the monitoring time to 3,000. Or perhaps you're trying to monitor too many things at once, try removing some.

Should I disable ULPS in MSI AB matt? Does it offer any improvement in game performance?

No performance deficit these days, only really applies to Crossfire users as you can better monitor gpu statistics and control second gpu voltage with it disabled. If you do disable it with a single gpu then it will stop the gpu going to sleep and it will stop the fan from moving when the monitor light powers off. I'd leave it enabled with a single gpu. :)

My verdict on the witcher crossfire profile: good scaling and usage across both gpu's, some minor flickering that isn't particularly noticeable except in specific situations, but the menus are quite bad for flicker.

Worth using for 90% of the gameplay, the other 10% is really irritating. Nearly there AMD, just nail it for the next drivers.

Thanks Dev. Working with the game devs to fix, likely to be in an updated game patch or Catalyst driver. :)

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but any idea when we might expect the next set of drivers? Any idea what their priorities for those are going to be?

I don't know, we've only just released our latest set. As for when the next game patch is due, you'd need to check in with CD Projekt Red. If the issue gets fixed in a game patch, I'll make sure to let everyone know about it here.

So no solutions for ccc refusing to open matt? ive reinstalled twice.

I used driver sweeping after uninstalling and restarting.

Try DDU in safe mode then when it restarts install driver.

I'd recommend avoiding driver sweepers unless you're already having problems. If the wrong files get deleted and cannot be recovered, sometimes the only fix is a fresh Windows install.

Yeah I figured it was too early to tell. Besides elite, most of my boxes have been ticked now (one the witcher gets tweaked for the flicker, whether that comes from cdpr or amd).

problem found.....

It couldnt find my "my pictures" folder, so refused to install lol....

I relocated docs / pics onto storage drive and forwarded the locations, seems Catalyst is not a fan

Now my now fairly humble CPU / GPU setups by todays standards is running witcher on high at 1080p at 60fps Vsync cap solidly (20-25fps increase over 1 card)

GOOD WORK AMD!

PCars downloading now :D

Great!

Ok so ive finally got the drivers installed correctly and on witcher 3 with crossfire, theres flicker, theres stutter, theres weird input lag and the fps is the same as with crossfire disabled. GJ guys.

You need to disable TemporalAA as per the guide we've written here, otherwise you get negative CrossFire scaling and flickering. Also the game defaults to Windowed Borderless Mode, so ensure you set full screen mode as well. Once you do the following, CrossFire works to around 80-90% scaling, depending on the resolution and hardware used.

Potential random question - people with Crossfire, do you keep Frame Pacing on? Do you see a reduction in FPS?

Absolutely, yes. Always recommend to keep it on unless you're benchmarking. Frame pacing may cost 1 fps or so. Very small performance hit.

There is the basic Frame Pacing option that is available in the 3D Applications aspect which is independent of CrossFire Profiles. However, the introduction of Catalyst Omega also added specific Frame Pacing improvements for certain games in Dual Graphics (APU + dGPU) and those are enabled through game profiling. If you were to override that internal profile you would lose that improvement. Conversely if you were to profile a game which doesn't have that improvement with a game profile that does, it will gain it. However, the optimization is profiled per application on purpose as it may not always result in smoother game rendering if the engine isn't compatible.

Those crazy pop-ups I'm getting in GTA V and Hardline were appearing in Evolve on the 15.5's, Matt.

Rolled back to the 15.4's and it was fine. Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone else reported it!

Thanks.

Matt, is it best to just use default crossfire profile for games or to always set up the custom crossfire profile via the game exe?

Use the default profile, if one exists is usually the best course of action. However adding a different profile is worth a shot if you have problems with the existing profile, or there is a known bug with a profile that is waiting for a driver update to fix.

The problems with amd dirt rally are stopping me moving to nvidia. Anyone buying a card today without waiting just a few days until the best value card available comes available must be ill. I've got £1200 sitting here and no freaking way am I ordering 2x980tis until I've seen the benchmarks for the amd card in a few days.

Wise man.

The witcher 3is running well still and the shadow flickering doesn't occur too often. What I am finding strange is that occasionally the whole screen flashes white for what seems to be a few frames since it lasts for less than a second. A bug I guess.

That sometimes occurs if the 295x2 is not being fed enough voltage, so try running it stock just to rule it out mate. :)

When crossfire works the 7990 is still such a beast, love it :D

Amen Dave. I ended up buying another one just for a piece of history to show the grandchildren.

It's amazing how smoothly it handles GTA V at 4K at near maximum settings. (with AA disabled) Undervolted to 1.1v and temp sits at the low 80's in complete silence. :)

Hey Matt, joining the 295x2 club in a few hours time :)

Quick question for you; I already have 15.5 installed, moving from my 290 to the 295x2, it should be as simple as swapping the card over right? Should not need to reinstall drivers or anything I believe. Is this correct?

Any other tips? Cheers :D

Welcome to the club dude. I love mine, Very quiet cards and look lovely with the Red Radeon Led.

It should work okay, but actually I'd recommend uninstalling the drivers first, then powering down the pc and installing the new gpu.

I had the feeling you may say that. Will do it to be on the safe side :)

Yeah, I really like the way the card looks, the red radeon led will sure look great in my case. Will take some picture and post it tomorrow probably.

First time multi gpu for me. Really looking forward to it :D

Cool, don't be too put off by the horror stories of a vocal few. Fact is that CrossFire works wonderfully well in most titles, but you do have to tweak things from time to time to get the best performance. I'm always around to help though, been using CrossFire since the 1900XTX so I've seen it all. :D

Matt quick question. What happens when a 7990 draws too much power? I tried flashing my 7990 to your bios but can't run it anywhere near the speeds I was able to previously.

Before your BIOS I could run 1.2ghz/1.6ghz/+20%

With your BIOS I can't run anything much stock without freezing and the driver recovery message. My 7990 has 2x8 pin connectors and Volterra VRMs. I suspect your BIOS lets it either draw more power than the card can supply or my PSU isn't upto it (700W Coolermaster).

When the 7990 draws too much power it usually downclocks to 950Mhz and will eventually turn itself off. It has an internal limit that even my bios can't overcome.

Did you flash the correct bios to the Master/Slave gpu? I labeled them to make it easy. If you can share with me your stock bios, i can take a look and compare it to mine. The stock bios had such a low TDP level that the gpu rarely spent much time at full boost clocks which made overclocking limited.

Matt, and update displayport link failure, proper working witcher 3, elite?

May be on my cards a bit longer after all.

Oh, and do you know if they will be looking into hawken at all? Mostly ok, but with some flickering. Though to be honest not sure if game or driver issue on that.

Oh and assetto Corsa.

Oh, and dragon age recently started developing a bit of flickering - again not sure if game or drivers. Not looked into it.

No updates from what I've previously said, I'll post here when i have some.
