The AMD Driver Thread

IF AMD changed something significant inside their GPUs, it would have been mentioned in their reviews. At the moment, I believe their difference in performance in certain games/scenarios, is only due to different clocks (and perhaps more vRAM) and some "nvidia kepler" move in regards to the drivers.

Exactly. If the 300 series had GCN 1.2 then I'm sure AMD would have advertised that instead of keeping quite.
Not sure about gimping drivers though. My 7900 cards have been goods so far and have had good fps in Witcher 3, Farcry4 etc without using modded drivers. I think AMD may have genuinely got some improvements in the newer drivers due to rewrites or learning a few things from the Windows 10 driver code.

All 3 series have improvements.

That is why we think it is not a total "re-brand." The only cards that support 10 bit and more colors are the Firepros and Quadros. The R9 300 series will be one of the first consumer cards that will support 10 bit wide gamut monitors allowing to finally support the display's billions of colors.

Has anyone found a way to reduce stuttering when riding the horse in Witcher 3? (290X CFX, Ultra Preset, FPS = 80+.)

Stuttering when moving the camera? I get it when it feels like the camera only moves in blocks at a time when on the horse, if I leave it its really smooth.

If so, I'd like to know how to fix this or if it'll need to be a patch?

The stutter I'm referring to is when the game is loading the graphics as you move through the open world at a fast speed. Had the same issue on GTA V. It is known as resource streaming stutter.

Ah! Someone else has this - and they even have a name for it! Thank you! :)

Tried quite few things thinking it was CFX related - GFX bios updates/drivers and clocks but still no improvement.

Is that clock per clock and same driver"? All those improvements don't look like anything more than the extra core and memory clock speeds?

The 10 bit and above does look new though. Although haven't amd sported 10 bit with 290x since last drivers so long as your monitor is 10 bit and you are using the right connection you can enable 10 bit in cc on your 290x card.........

Any idea while all of a sudden out of nowhere my catalyst control center has stopped opening. Haven't don't anything but anytime I click it now I get the mouse loading icon it shows up in task manager but it doesn't open so I cant change between crossfire and single card mode right now.

I can choose 12bit in CCC on my 290s, but the point is just because it can be chosen does that mean that its actually working.. ATM in on my Plasma KURO through HDMI and can choose 12bit there is no way it supports it.

went from 14.15 drivers which game me 330-440,000 Draw Calls a second in DX11 ST.
to 15.20.1040 Leaked drivers and went up to 590,000+ Draw Calls a second in DX11 ST.
On my 8350k + 7870 stock system. Up by 34%. taking the 440,000k as the reference.
Mantle went from 9.2Mil to 10.3Mil.

Dem drivers. I had not updated them in a while... Had Physics to do at Uni, lol.

Tried a few games after and they felt far smoother and gained a few fps.

I really think if stuff had been changed under the hood we'd know about it.

Like eggs at the super market if they're organic and free range it says so on the packet in BIG letters. No one in their right mind would forget to tell people about legitimate selling points, or forget to use the right launch driver... Oh wait...

Well they have been doing just or there would not be so much effort being made to dispel that claim but people dont believe them and seeing as some of the supposed changes would not be applicable to the majority some of the changes are not thrusted in the common users face.

It will be dead simple when the certified 15.20 and 15.30 drivers come out for all cards. Apples vs apples then. However will all these sites with 300 card series go and rerun all their benchmarks? I doubt it.

Would be nice to get older cards benchmarked again with 15.30 when they drop. Considering they will be the 15.20 branch in whql form.

Can say that I am very happy. If AMD had these drivers on 290x launch. It would have been the titan killer that it is now.

So im running the 1023 drivers on Win 10, if i want the modded drivers (1040) do i just install them without a problem? I read somewhere windows will reinstall 1023 again, is this true and how do i switch off that if it does?

Cheers.

windows 10 should auto install 1040 atm not 1023. running build 10158 & 140 drivers here

Thats weird then, running Windows10 Pro Insider, Evaluation Copy, Build 10130 here and it automatically installed 1023, i've managed to get 1040 installed, is my Win 10 build in need of an update?

Edit.. seems like MSI AB isnt overclocking my GPU even though GPU-Z says its OC'd, also 3DMark shows my OC too.. on 'some' benches, wtf lol
