The AMD Driver Thread

I'm also sticking with my 290 for now, its still a very capable card trading blows with the equivalent Maxwells, no point in moving anywhere just now. side stepping seems to be the only option in my price range.

I just want 40% over my 290X at 450 pound.
It seems I'm not going to get that.
Fury X performs exactly as expected, but at a higher price point than it should be (Because people just love spending increasing amounts of money.), however it's the nicest package at its price point.

I think there's a case of declining gains, so I'm hoping the Fury Pro can end up being around 350 in a few months which for me will become the GPU to get (Although that's money dependent, I've took a massive wage cut to move forward with my life in terms of career)

Yeah, i'm pretty similar.

£350 is the maximum i'm willing to pay for a GPU, if i don't get +30% for that i'm not interested, its not worth the £350.

I might just swap out my Case, SSD, CPU and Motherboard in the spring next year and wait for 16nm on GPU's

Spot on. If you have a 290 or 290X then its not worth moving. It will only get better when *cough* AMD step up with their driver releases and DX12 gets in full swing. I would say at least 6 months till an affordable alternative is able to turn ones head.

I'm pretty happy with the mileage so far. I paid £400 for the 7990 with a PSU (over time both got replaced through RMA) and have ended up with a good Seasonic and a 290X. The card is still retailing for £250+ and its well over a year old. My normal GPU budget would be up to £200 so I think when I do 'upgrade' I will just get another second hand 290x and be happy with that.

In the same boat too. My last two upgrades have been £100 and £170 for my xfire setups

Only thing that tempts me at present is 290/x or 2 but I know would need new psu and tbh my 7950s just play everything still at 1080p

I installed my old 280x in my sons computer whilst he was at school to replace my even older 7850.
after installing the new drivers I didn't bother with the prompt to reboot and just shut down the pc.

One hour later his mother was on the phone saying "I don't know what you've done to his pc but he's been in tears for the last 20 minutes refusing to talk, You had better come around and see what's up with him"

So I go around and he's still got tears in his eyes and it's because of the stupid black border rubbish you get when you first install an amd card.

instead of a nice fullscreen 1080p you have the stupid black border until you turn over scan up or whatever the stupid setting is.

Good job amd why do you cards do that in the first place? it's not just his monitor because its every amd card I've owned with multiple monitors.

Honestly I bet there are people out there who never figured it out sat gaming with the stupid black border.

oh well at least his next hand me down card will be a 980ti so he won't get to experience that again

I've done plenty of builds with AMD cards for friends and myself and I've never once come across this issue.

Why were black bars making him cry???

And as for this 'issue'yes, it's annoying and used to bug me, but you have to keep in mind it is only in certain connections, such as hdmi. Because that will often be connected to tv

Use Dvi and it won't happen.

he's autistic and gets upset over stupid things.

he probably thought the monitor was broke and he would get in trouble or something ridiculous
I use dvi pretty sure I still had it when the 280 was in my rig with a benq gaming monitor

his is HDMI though

to be fair the overscan setting made me cry too...

It's a scaling with hdmi, other connection don't do it. It's not really that much a big deal? First install head into CCC sort scale out you don't need to touch again till next driver install..

Just for your information.. The overscan setting is there for a very good reason.. Not all TVs scale well when connected to a gpu by hdmi. Some TVs don't have overscan at all, so to fix this amd give the option inside the driver.. Let put it this way it's a great feature to have if your TV is abit dated.

no its straight forward, Uninstall old through normal "uninstall or change program" and install these

for me those drivers are not as good as the 1040 but better than the official 15.5

Thanks, might give em a try then (still on the 15.4 BETAs, GTA V ones), what about those 1040s, any faffing about for those, or is the video player fix for Win 10 ?
