The AMD Driver Thread

If its just a big GUI redesign and its been rebuilt and runs faster im hardly all excited for it. I mean i'm happy that its got a overhall but im not like OWWWW CANT WAIT FOR TOMORROW TO GET THAT NEW GUI!!!!
More like ohh cool ill probably download it at some point then. Now if its got some good performance improvements all round then yea i'm interested. I stare at games not driver GUI.

The Shader Cache feature is a great addition, it's eliminated all microstutter in Battlefield 4 and all Frostbite games in QuadFire Fury X for me. DX11 now plays as nicely as Mantle does.

Will the new thing play ball with my 7970's? :)

Shader Cache?

And what do you mean DX11 now plays as nicley as mantle does? In just BF4? Or just in general?

Read the anandtech article for more detailed information.

Shader Cache will reduce level loading times and provide smoother gameplay the second time and beyond you play a game/level, as the Shaders are compiled and then stored in a Cache on your hard drive and will be used next time you play. The difference is night and day for me in the Frostbite engine, which has never been favourable towards four GPU's, unless you were running under the Mantle API.

Radeon Software Crimson Edition is AMD’s revolutionary new graphics software that delivers redesigned functionality, supercharged graphics performance, remarkable new features, and innovation that redefines the overall user experience.

Radeon Settings:
Radeon Settings is the new, streamlined user interface, engineered to bring out the best of AMD graphics hardware. User‐friendly and feature‐rich, Radeon Settings is lightning fast and starts upto 10x times faster than the previous AMD Catalyst™ Control Center. Radeon Settings provides a brand new game manager, improved AMD Overdrive options per game and new video, display and Eyefinity tabs.

All though my 7950 has no problems with temps, Crimson drivers keep setting fan speed to default min speed of 23% and not auto after every reboot.

It's a bug, we're planning to fix this and some of the other commonly mentioned issues in Crimson in a soon to be released driver.

You can fix this particular issue by performing a fresh reinstallation of the drivers, but this time do not touch the fan speed setting in Global Overdrive within Crimson. This should leave the default setting and not cause this issue to occur.

Am i right in thinking that FreeSync ONLY works via the DP ? So multiple displays with FreeSync is not possible from a single GPU ??

At this particular moment in time, yes only via DisplayPort. However, FreeSync via HDMI is coming.

I would have thought that the card would have throttled way before it was able to fry.

The card will throttle down to 2D clocks if needed to prevent damage.

@Matt

IS LINUX GETTING FREESYNC SUPPORT ANY TIME !

Also they have a couple of regressions in some titles with the 15.11's. Upsetting going on the jump they managed with the 15.5/7's

PS. Sorry for shouting but thought you may miss my post, also you can shout at the relevant people and say you have been shouted at so passing it on :p

Can't answer this yet I'm afraid Pete.

Matt help me out dude, give me a time frame for a new driver with some fixes, i'm trying as hard as i can to hold on to these cards with the hope that they really start to shine, but it seems there's always something.

My patience is running out, need something.

Just roll back to the previous driver mate as you indicated that was fine. Hotfix should be out tonight.

Please report the Core Clock fluctuation issue using the following form. Please include reproduction examples so we can reproduce the issue. Include details of games that the issue occurs on. Include details like What Radeon Settings you are using FRTC, FreeSync, Frame Pacing etc. What causes it and what fixes it. We've had very few bug reports about this issue and of course we want to fix it. Don't reply to me here, leave a report here.

What a mess this is - nvidia fanboys must be ****ing themselves laughing. lol AMDMatt disappeared of face of the planet with all these issues.

No surprise there. Don't worry, as soon as AMD have something good to announce he will be back. lol

Sad, but it's the way AMD roll these days. It only makes me potentially picking up pascal when it comes out to be an easier choice :o

You can find me on the AMD forums, AMDCare, or via the AMD.com/support website. It's no longer my responsibility to hang around here pandering to you folks. I keep updating the thread though and help out when I'm not working in my spare time, merely as a courtesy. I'm not about to abandon this thread or OcuK completely.

If you have issues to report, you can do so here.

Sorry Matt that comes across to me as bad

I didnt know that you were just ever here to pander to us. I even recall when you didnt work for AMD you were still here and helping people even though it wasnt your responsibility.
If your work keeps you busy better to just say that IMO rather than how you worded it

Hope you have a merry xmas :D

Haha, perhaps pander was the wrong word to use. :p

Sadly I don't have a lot of time to keep up to date with every post in this thread. It's not a case of I'm avoiding the thread or have disappeared and will only return where there is good news. The best bet is to use the official channels to get help or report issues.

Merry Christmas to you Triss. :D

Fair enough. I remember when you posted that your job was moving you from the OcUK forums onto the AMD forums full time due to the revamp of the AMD forums. Good to see a response showing some personality from a rep rather than the normal robotic corporate line. Thanks for taking the time to still come and see us mate.

Thanks Stu. I'll always make time for the OcuK folk, that's why i still update the thread and help out around here - when i can.

Those quotes i saw deserved an explanation though, i thought. :)

Just had a couple of messages from my son about graphical issues while playing GTA - he's sent me this to show the issue:

GTAV_zpszbqkpfwl.jpg

I've suggested to him the usual - rebooting, trying different settings in GTA for shadows - and he says he's already tried that. I won't be home until late this evening and don't really want to try to talk him through installing older drivers (although he's 17 and considers himself an epic PC gamer, he's got NO interest in how a PC works or how to troubleshoot issues) - anyone seen this before and got any suggestions I can ping over to him so I stop his whining and get back to work? :D

He's playing on my PC (as in signature) and I'm on the latest 15.11.1 Crimsons.

Try this Stu, it's quick and easy.
