The AMD Driver Thread

GTA V is kinda broken for me now:( game starts just fine, no stutter and high fps in the 80s, then after about 10 mins the fps just tanks, loads of stutter, fps go to around 25 with both cards at 100% usage then more offen than not it'll crash.

Two cards runs pretty well for me, but there is always a little stutter when entering new areas when driving, really spoils it for me. I find that playing this game with one gpu and FreeSync enabled is the way to go for the best possible smoothness. I think it's just this game has pushed the API to the absolute limit.

Here's a trick you can try though. Start the game and get in a car, then press alt + enter to go into Windowed mode and then alt + enter to go back to full screen mode. Does that improve things? Seems to help smooth the game out a bit for me when using two gpu's.

like i said in the trust message to you yesterday Matt, Alt+tabbing out or atl+enter is the only way I can get my cards and frames to boost to where they should be. When I first enter the game, I quite often get 9% usage on my cards and like 10fps lmao, a quick alt+tab or Alt+enter to flip between windowed and back to full screen, and the frames and gpu usage rockets back up to 120fps again. After that point, the game is so damn smooth on 15.7.1's and Windows 10

I'd say it's a driver issue, but the same trick applies to the competition as well.

Have to see if a future game patch from Rockstar fixes it.

Using Windows 10 with Catalyst 15.7.1

Since upgrading yesterday I've noticed the following issues using 2x HD7850:

-VCE no longer works. The VCE version of OBS crashes when selecting the "Encoding" menu where you choose the encoding method. The Gaming Evolved client will not record any gameplay.

-Skype in Windows 10 wakes the second GPU from its low power idle state for some reason

-While the DX12 API overhead test works in 3D Mark, attempting to use the D3D12 renderer on Unreal Engine 4 4.9 Preview crashes the display driver. I realise this is early days in terms of DX12 support though, so no biggie.

Other than the above everything is stable with no other problems.

Any idea why VCE isn't working on Win10, Matt? Using 15.7.1.

VCE works fine as you can still record and stream gameplay with Raptr, Mirillis Action, PlaysTv etc. However Accelerated Video Transcoding (AVT) has been removed from 15.7 and all future drivers as the software is end of life.

If you need it for OBS then you can pull the AVT installer from 14.12 WHQL or even 15.6 Beta and install it that way. Download 14.12 from www.amd.com/drivers (look for the older driver section near the 15.7.1 download link) start the extraction process for 14.12 and check your C:AMD>14.12 folder. It should be in there somewhere.

guys, getting this issue on GTA V running on Windows 10. Using Crossfire 390's and 15.7.1 driver. I thought it might have been an issue with Sweetfx I was running, but deleted all the files and ran as normal, but error was still happening after 10-20 minutes of gaming. Another thing I noticed, at times the screen would flicker like crazy, but alt+enter to go windowed then alt+enter again to go back to full screen would fix it.

Anyway, here's the error, what you think? driver issue? seems I'm not the only one, 2k plus other ppl with the same issue. http://steamcommunity.com/app/271590/discussions/0/611703709830303956/

I had the same error message once yesterday Tony and i was playing GTA V all day. I had my GPU's overclocked at the time so put it down to that, but perhaps there is a bug either with the game or the drivers. Edging towards a game issue as it seems to affect both sides according to your link.

Finally updated to Win 10 (which was surprisingly smooth btw) and after installing 15.7.1 I hopped in to good ol' GTAV. Runs great, which is how it ran on WIN 8.1 but one thing I noticed is my VRAM usage is down about 500 - 600mb on average. Pretty crazy :D I LIKE!

In win 8.1 my vram usage always hovered around 3.2gb and tonight it never got over 2.6gb. This is at 4k with very high settings (except tess and grass).

All three of my gpus are working like a charm so far...Keep it up AMD!

Glad to hear that.

Tessellation can be set at very high. The performance impact from it is minimal as the game does not use unnecessary, excessive tessellation.

Sweet, good to know!

Quick question... I also noticed in Witcher 3 my vram didn't go over 1.8gb (again at 4k ultra). Did the compression techniques from the Fiji get passed down? :D :D :D

This is fantastic!

No, the Fury and Fury X are unique with regards to how they handle textures. I expect what you're seeing is Windows 10's WDDM 2.0 handling the memory more efficiently.

It was one of the reasons Mantle under WDDM1.2 (Windows 8/8.1) used so much memory. WDDM1.2 was a problem in that regard.

Matt when can we expect new drivers?

When they're ready, we released 15.7.1 just a few days back.

I'm sure you're all aware of this by now, or at least you should be, but I can't give exact dates for driver releases as there is no 'firm' date. One a month, or thereabouts is when we release drivers. Sometimes we'll release a hot fix driver if there's a critical bug that needs fixing, but this is quite rare these days.

If you're hoping for a fix to the GTA V issue, I've already reported it and we're still investigating. Not sure if it's a game or driver issue at the moment as I see plenty of similar reports on-line with varied systems.

Is it? AMDMatt seemed to suggest there was an updated version of 15.7.1 ?

It's been added to the release notes.

HOTFIX : 8/10/2015 - the driver package has been updated to 15.20.1062.1004 to fix a known issue :
[423311] A TDR error may be experienced when accessing the Windows Metro camera application, the Skype application or the Xbox application
HOTFIX : 8/5/2015 - the driver package has been updated to 15.20.1062.1003 to fix a known issue :
[423635] A Blue Screen error may be observed with some Intel+AMD configurations on driver installation.

Matt I dont think it would be completely unreasonable to expect Fury X in Crossfire configuration to be able to run BF4 Multi-player online 1440P at a constant 144 FPS (ultra preset with only MSAA at 0x / off)

I seem to feel the hardware should run the game faster than it does I get frames dropping here and there and it seems to ruin the experience for me.

I cant help but be extremely fussy!! I know for 90% of people or more this would be more than acceptable or just fine

I cant help but want that little bit more, its just human nature right? I'm using RP to force full-3d clock states... how can I get more out of this configuration?

I'm using mantle over directx and its obviously much more effective....

I just wish this title would run smoother! is it server-side performance caking?! what causes the horrible slowdowns!?

Dice have not added any performance any optimisations for the Fury X on the Mantle API in Battlefield 4, i would recommend using DirectX 11. The DirectX 11 CrossFire profile in Battlefield 4 works very well with 2x Fury X for me.

Would you use directx11 for290x crossfire?

No, I'd use Mantle for any GCN 1.0 or 1.1 APU's or discrete Graphics Cards.

Using 15.8 Beta Matt which I presume has the black screen fix in?
Still getting it everytime I bootup though when I restart the pc. Doesn't happen when I bootup from shutdown only when I do a restart.
Its not the end of the world but when your in a rush its a little frustrating to sit there 30 seconds waiting for the login screen to show up especially when your on a SSD drive and it normally takes a few seconds.

Try disabling ULPS to see if that fixes it.

Sorry chaps, you know how it works. I'll make sure to post in this thread when it's live Pete. (Linux Driver)

Unwinder is getting a nano so hopefully won't be too much longer now. No news on Trixxx sadly so MSI Afterburner might be the first tool available with voltage control for the Fury line-up.
