The AMD Driver Thread

Matt, it seems that the Crossfire profile on the 280X for Catzilla is not working. Had to force a custom profile to get it working.

Thanks for letting me know.

Hi Matt, any chance of some SWTOR attention?

What do you mean?

There's been a memory leak like this on and off for the HD5 series since BF3. Was always fixed, then broken then fixed then broken etc. BF4 however never got fixed, although last time I played I didn't actually get the leak. Occurs only on map change though not all the time, always consumes ram like the cookie monster eats cookies, and of course since W8 does a hybrid shutdown you need to either do a full shutdown or a restart to clear it.

Yes i think this may be fixed in the next driver.

Crossfire doesn't work in the game, hasn't for a long time. I am unsure if it's a game issue or driver issue, but a lot of people with AMD cards have said it's not worked properly for well over a year.

I'm aware the game uses crap code so it may not be the drivers fault, but if there's any optimisation that can be done it would be greatly appreciated.

Duly noted will investigate as it's not a game I'm familiar with.

Matt, any word yet on whether we're getting a fix anytime soon for sound crackling (DPC latency issues, really) with CF + Vsync on + multiple monitors? Either vsync off, or turning extra monitors off is still the only real solution. (Though I've found a much less annoying workaround for now by putting my 2nd monitor on the iGPU instead).

Can you setup your trust account so i can send you an email please.

The next driver will have a FarCry4 Crossfire profile.

I recently submitted a list of games that needed a Crossfire profile and Assetto Corsa was one of them so if and when i have any further updates regarding this, I'll let you know.

Just remember that some games just don't work properly with multi gpu so it's not always down to the drivers. :)

Is there anything you can do about Rome 2 Matt? No matter what settings I change my 290x in CF won't run 100%. In fact, whatever settings I change, something different always happens. Don't know if you can help me here

Yes the Rome 2 crossfire profile is not working properly, I reported this previously. I will chase it up and come back with an update.

Anything on a Wolfenstein: The new order crossfire profile?

I'm afraid Crossfire does not work very well with this particular game, however you're free to try either AFR Friendly or 1x1 Optimize to see if it improves performance. Shankly indicated earlier than AFR Friendly worked fine for him. :)

Matt i hope AMD have their driver team on overtime right now, i can see lots of people swapping out their 970s for 290s and it would be a shame if got put off by any driver blips!!!! i'm not referring to anything in particular btw

If you could get those other vsr options out as well then you might have lots of happy red team fans and some new ex green team ones as well.

Oh and you might want to have a word and make sure any AMD sponsored games use just over 3.5 gb of vram on ultra...you know THEY would do it (tessellated concrete blocks anyone) ;)

I couldn't comment on that possibility Dave and there is no way we would encourage developers to do such a thing, that is not the AMD way. However you can safely use 'all' of the available video memory on our 4gb and 8gb cards without suffering performance drops or hitching. :)

Just a quick one, I play Titanfall, on a single GPU it is a smooth, but get some slow downs when stuff goes crazy.

However, when I enable my second GPU, I get higher FPS (As expected) but the game stutters, and just keels generally laggier, can anyone confirm this?

I gave up on the game a while ago, but Crossfire was never perfect for me.

1x1 Optimize should work quite well with this game, so I'd recommend giving that a try in the meantime.

Ok, I will try it later and report back.

I was using the default AMD profile, any idea what settings that uses as standard?

I'm not sure, sorry.

I've held off buying dying light until 4k resolution is playable on a 295X2. This is hopefully a priority as it would appear to be one of the games of the year.

I'm waiting for my copy then i can see what's what.

Shh Matt's dealing with all the new members of team RED, he's going to have a busy few weeks hopefully.

It's a pity he can't bring forward the launch of the freesync monitors as well as a little welcome gift for them as well

What Matt needs to a vendor persuader.

I must be getting old, because i have no idea what that is. :D

A whip of some kind? ;)

Just tried the AFR1x1 setting on Titanfall, the stutter was still present along with flickering textures. Sigh, it was worth a shot I guess lol.

Thanks Russell, we're looking at improving our Titanfall profile. As and when i have anything more on this, I'll post about it here.

Matt, new driver for FC4 mgpu, get on the driver teams back, it needs something to at least help alleviate some of the stutter.

Titanfall mgpu should be 1 to 1 optimise and disable or set shadows to low iirc, been a while since I played it but no harm in giving it a try.

Tommy i mentioned earlier in the thread, the next driver will have a Farcry 4 profile. :)

Dont know what the deal is with my 290, no matter what drivers I install now the fan has its own mind and does what it wants :(

Are you using any overclocking utilities like afterburner or trixxx?

Matt, I know I mentioned this a long time ago...

Custom resolutions - is there any likelihood AMD are looking at implementing this in their drivers?

I can work around it by using "Custom Resolution Utility", but it would be nice to have something native.

Also, being able to set a max frame rate on an individual basis per game in profiles/drivers would be wicked!

I will ask about it, as I'm honestly not sure.

Here you go, I had it manually on 51% as that's tolerable but it was going way way higher than that. I then changed it it to Auto while taking this screenshot and it indicated it was 20% yet the fan on the 290 is going crazy, maybe 70-80%

Try using a custom fan profile, like in this screenshot below.

My 290 is really really driving me mad now.

Fan is running ridiculously fast for no reason, everything is telling me its at 20% fan speed which is clearly isnt. Adjusting the fan speed or custom fan curve does nothing, fan still does its own thing :mad:

That's bizarre Dempsey. I would suggest trying a fresh install and following these steps.

1. Follow the AMD guide to uninstall your drivers.
2. Once drivers are fully uninstalled and you've restarted your pc, please download the latest version of DDU.
3. Extract that in your downloads folder and run it. Allow it to set a system restore point and follow the prompts. Say yes and allow it to restart into safe mode.
4. Click clean AMD and then restart.
5. Download and install the latest version of 14.12 Omega drivers from the AMD website.
6. Restart your pc to complete the install

Does the fan kick into full speed again? Leave other programs like Afterburner disabled for now to rule those out.

Just did a fresh install of the w10 preview. Same problem with DPC latency, so I think I can rule out software issues. It's either driver or hardware at this point. If the former, I'm buggered because it doesn't seem to be a big enough issue since the April drivers fixed it for most people. Driver teams have bigger fish to fry it seems. If the latter, I'm equally buggered.

We're still trying to reproduce it Dev, but until we can we cannot fix it.
