The AMD Driver Thread

Agreed!

Matt, will have a quick go with single card in mantle in a bit. It's definitely when using mantle that I get the strange judder.

As mentioned before using ddu and reinstalling had cpu and gpu usage pretty smooth, but what I see on screen is not representative of that or the fps.

It's not microstutter...

Will use your car to see what mem usage like.

Apologies for possibly asking this twice, but you don't have Raptr/Gaming Evolved APP running in the background do you?

Was fine with crossfire disabled.

Memory usage was around 4.4GB

Actually was surprised ho well one card ran everything at 4K

Interesting.

Can you try deleting the Mantle Cache files from the My Docs/BF4 Folder.

Re-enable Crossfire.

Load up BF4 and see how it goes again.

If problems persist, try tweaking the Frostbite Mantle frame pacing option. Default is 1, but you can try option 2 as well for smoother performance at the expense of lower fps.

Bring up the console and type RenderDevice.FramePacingMethod 2 and hit enter.

Task manager is open but nothing is showing. If I play in DX it's a lot better.

Can you try clearing the cache folder and then resetting the video settings to default and trying again.

It's hard to diagnose the fault as you're within video memory tolerances.

Is the Origin overlay disabled?

Which cache?

My Docs, BF4, Mantle pipeline cache. It's unlikely to make a difference, but worth trying.

Does it occur with one card? If not then it could be something Dice will need to fix.

I don't see this when running 1/2/3/4 cards in Mantle, so it's hard to suggest solutions. The only difference is i have 8gb cards, but as you're within tolerances it's unlikely to be that.

There is no set date for the driver, but as soon as it's ready I'll post it here. Back when Omega was released we set a rough estimate of February as the next release.

@AMDMatt

Currently Far Cry 4 shows negative crossfire scaling only when entering some towns. These towns are often populated. This could be a factor. I've had various 290X CFX and 295x2 owners test this over at overclock.net. They all got the same result. SMAA also causes a screen burn effect after sleeping or looking at the world map. Have AMD been able to replicate and fix these issues? If yes, are these issues fixed under the new FC4 CFX profile?

I also spotted that Core #2 is pegged at 99 usage. Disabling and enabling that core via the affinity options in task manager resolves that, and boosts fps in these populated towns. Will the FC4 profile bring any efficiency improvements to the overhead and latency in this game?

Thank you.

I'm afraid i don't know, but what i do know is we have a proper Crossfire profile and improved performance for this title in our next driver update. If these issues still occur after that, then please let me know and I'll pass it on.

Hey Matt,

Somehow when I run the Thief benchmark with Mantle Crossfire, the game freezes and the driver crashes with the 'the display driver has stopped responding' error.

This was at 1080p.

Any ideas?

Sounds like an unstable gpu overclock. Does it occur with both gpus at stock clocks?

HI Matt,

I just tried to use Mantle in Dragon Age, however mantle causes very very long loading time. When I change it back to DX11 then everything is back to normal. And mantle stops msi afterburner showing the fps / other info as well.
Why is this happening?
Cheers

Try my User.Cfg file from Battlefield 4. This should enable an on screen display for Mantle and allow monitoring of Fps and cpu+gpu frame times. Simply place it in the Dragon Age.exe folder.

I've noticed and reported the longer loading times too, but this may have something to do with all the caching that Mantle does before the map loads. This is not present in DX which is why it loads much quicker, but is not always so smooth.

I wish AMD would include voltage control into CCC as I have a 7990 and always lower my voltage but would prefer not to have to install extra software like afterburner. Or can the card voltage be permanently lowered. Thanks

That's never going to happen officially, but there will always be third party tools for advanced users to tweak these things. :)

@AMDMatt

Will the next driver release contain the driver level frame rate limiter?
Are AMD aware of their higher overall CPU overhead in their drivers compared to Nvidia in DX11 titles?
Are the next drivers on schedule?
Does it also contain CFX profile for Dying Light?

Thank you.

1) I cannot comment on potential unannounced software features.

2) When the drivers are ready i will post about it here.

3) It's not for me to comment on our competitors drivers.

4) The next driver should have a Crossfire profile for Dying Light.
