The AMD Driver Thread

I haven't played GTA V for a while now so I missed several patches and few driver updates. But at the moment fury x performance in GTA V is absolutely shocking.
at 1080p (everything maxed out) single card gets 30-35fps with a lot of fluctuations. xfire gets 65-70fps with very smooth gameplay.
4k is completely unplayable on 4k now when before I used to get 70fps in xfire.
And when in menu fps drops to 6fps :/
WTF is going on?
Win 10
[email protected]
16gb ddr4 ram
intel ssd
2x fury x :/

Might be a Fury issue? I'm running 4k still smooth even after the latest lowriders update with my 290's. Verify integrity cache?

Also... you may have tried this, but restart the pc and do not start up fraps, MSI ab, or any other program that shows clocks/ fps/ or overclocks. Just jump right in to the game and see how if feels. You'll obviously know if it's less than 60fps. Some games just hate external apps like those.

Hope you get it sorted.. these lowriders are hella sweet in 4k! :D

AMDmatt,

It apears I am getting microstutter in crossfire mode in the Battlefield engine games and some others such as Hitman Absolution. It's most noticeable when panning the camera left to right where jerkyness/skipping is seen. I never noticed this until I played Battlefront Beta which was not as smooth as the PS4 version. The games work smoothly in single card mode. I've tried all the usual stuff for Battlefield 4 and Battlefront such as enabling triple buffering , vsync etc in the user.cfg file but nothing works. It may be related to Windows 10 since I never had this problem in Windows 7.

I managed to fix the problem in Hitman by installing Radeon Pro and enabling Triple Buffering so I assume it is related to how the game engines buffer frames. Is there any universal fix for such an issue or is it something that I need to test per game? Can drivers cause this?

Also is it possible to add the Triple buffering option for Direct3D in CCC? Saves having to use a third party program.

AMDmatt:
An update ( since no one replied to my original post) :

I managed to fix the problem with the games (Battlefield4, Battlefront and Hitman) that stutter (in both crossfire and single card mode) by using Rivatuner Statistics Server that comes with MSI Afterburner.
I set the frame limit to 60 and games are then smooth as they should be. Increasing the frame limit to above 65fps instantly makes the games run choppy and stuttery, even if vsync is ON.

Not sure why the issue is fixed with Rivatuner. Can you please get this investigated AMDmatt? Thanks.

Everything was ok in Windows 7 btw.

Nice one. Did you try fps limiter in CCC? If that helps. It even might be your monitor?

The games used to run ok in Windows 7 with the same monitor and gpu's so I doubt if it's that. The CCC frame limiter is global which I don't want and I haven't tested yet. I 'll try it tonight but will probably achieve the same.

the stutter doesn't happen in most games but some like Battlefield 4 and Hitman. Most other games seem to be fine without limiting frames.

Look at this link. This is why AMD are losing. People think a 970 is much better than a 390 and that AMD drivers are cack.

Sad, at the current prices I would choose 390 every time, it is clearly the better deal.

Nvidia is like apple they could sell a pile of dog poop and people would still buy it..

It's one thing you do after give nvidia credit for there marketing is very good.. The problem a lot of people are also very much miss informed..

Soooooooooo true, they are the apple and Samsung (for android) of the mobile market.

So many people think top sellers are all down to these companies just having pure quality products and the competitors being crap but it's not, it is because of the millions of £/$ that they put into marketing/advertising, brand power etc.

If marketing wasn't so important then the likes of Samsung, apple etc. wouldn't be increasing their budget every year.....

No doubt the products are good but they aren't "that good".

muziqaz try changing from the shadows setting from the AMD CHS option to softest option. I think I may have just fixed my stutter I wonder if it's the same for you.

Edit, from the benchmark - Look at the max frametimes

AMD CHS Shadows on

Time in milliseconds(ms). (Lower is better). Min, Max, Avg
Pass 0, 7.765840, 213.931671, 9.855888
Pass 1, 7.996892, 440.008575, 10.253700

Pass 3, 5.742696, 447.233276, 8.897166
Pass 4, 4.255259, 18.928015, 9.457737

Softest Shadow setting on

Time in milliseconds(ms). (Lower is better). Min, Max, Avg

Hi all,

Have picked up a Sapphire 390 and installed however I'm encountering something strange.

Every now and then my display goes blank then comes back on again but all readouts from software are gone, so as an example MSI AB reports the GPU clocks and temps as zero?

What's going on? Is this driver related or a bad card?

What drivers are you using? A friend of mine had the same problem using the 15.10 betas. Went back to 15.7.1 or 15.8 and problem went away.

Have you tried running DDU to install a fresh set of drivers.

It's strange how some people have to use stuff like this, I've always done the same thing and that is install the new drivers straight on top of the old ones and I've yet to have a problem in 5 odd years. When moving to Nvidia or back to AMD I do a manual removal of the old brand but that always seems to go smoothly too. I hope I haven't just hexed myself writing that

Yeah i just install on top, unless i get a error, then i just use ddu.

Yes you have more than likey as they like coming over to the amd drivers but hate us in there thread.
