The AMD Driver Thread

well thats it, had enough of Crossfire on 16.1 Crimson, sick and tired of profiles not saving and not having the 2nd card do anything in a lot of games that I know crossfire was previously working. Final straw tonight going back to BF4, again perfect profile previously on old drivers, but played tonight and 2nd card was doing naff all, tried so many things to get it moving but nothing worked. Rolled back to 15.12 driver, crossfire now working perfect on BF4, Blade & Soul, Project Cars, Tomb Raider and a few more. 16.1 was 100% broken for me, and tried installing them multiple times, so if you're having issue, just go back to 15.12.

said it, crimson wasnt ready for release.
works perfectly for me but I use single card.

Another way to read this is that Crimson was ready for release for 99% of users who use a single GPU.

It just wasn't ready for the 1% (or less) using Crossfire.

As I've said before, the Crimsons are running fantastically well here on my 390X/BenQ XL2730Z 1440p 144HZ Freesync setup. Couldn't be happier :)

I've said this before and il say it again amd promote crossfire with there dual gpu cards or hd7990, 295x2 and the upcoming furyx2, regardless wether it's 1% or 10% of people that use crossfire it should in interests to support it for there customers but for some reason it's not priority and wonder why they lose market share, customers are sick and will move to nvidia. I've had endless problems with Crimson drivers and crossfire or my PC bsod on startup so I've have gone back to 15.11 and when I change my gpus they will be nvidia.

Many NV users are just as fed up with SLI support.

Should NVidia drop SLI, has it had it's day ?

So my new display port cable arrived today hoping to resolve the above, but no luck!

It mostly happens when I wake the computer from sleep and some times from a fresh boot. I have not witnessed the issue while gaming. Only happens on Crimson drivers. When it happens, turning the monitor on and off or reconnecting the displayport cable to the GPU fixes it. I'm running a Dell U2414H 1920X1080 60hz non-freesync monitor on a Asus Strix OC R9 390X.

Video of issue

The issue is now on the 16.1 release note in the Known issues list. It will probablt be in the next update.

I am waiting for this fix since July. We are not the only one.

My thread at anandtech http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2456115

Using GPU tweak and setting 2d clocks on the first card at 300/1250 instead of 300/150 solves the problem.

My certified DP 1.2 cable was delivered a little earlier today (to replace the ancient non-certified DP cable that came with my BenQ, which gave flickering and a black screen lockup a few days back).

So far, so good, but early days. :)

Curiously, BenQ "Display Pilot" still suggests 2560x1440 @60Hz, I half-expected it to suggest 144Hz now I have a certified cable.

I was of the understanding that the initial crimson release (and hotfix) was the last driver release for legacy gpus such as my 6450.

However the latest crimson drivers 16.1 are compatible with my card and I'm currently running them.

They were, but we felt that some bugs present in those drivers had to be fixed. Although pre GCN GPU's have generally reached peak optimisation, we may still release the odd driver to address critical issues on legacy products.

Those having flickering issues, try the following:

1. Make sure your have the 'driver' file for your monitor installed. Check Device manager, it shouldn't say "generic pnp device" etc.

2. Show hidden/disconnected devices in device manager. Right click and remove all monitors apart from the display port monitor your using.

Over the years i have had many AMD cards but the nightmares people seem to have with crossfire has convinced me to never go crossfire. AMD must lose a lot of sales due to this!

Can I ask AMD. As 16.1 is called a "hotfix" should you only download this if you are having problems and this hotfix addresses them? Should everyone else stay on 15.12? Or is the practice to always run the latest drivers, hotfix or regular?

16.1 Hotfix fixes some of the bigger issues of 15.12 so i would recommend to upgrade. If 15.12 works fine for you, then stick with it.

That little cooler you've got it in your machine in your sig, what does it perform like under full load. Eg! What are the temps whilst gaming with that Cpu?

OK Thanks. I'm having Issues with using Raedon Settings for controlling AA in FSX with 16.1. Namely, it doesn't work anymore. I'm not the only one.

(I have submitted a bug report).

It's not a big problem because I only use that HDD for FSX so can happily sit with 15.12. But I will update my SSD with my steam games to 16.1

Thanks.

It's great! Heavy gaming load typically sits mid 50's peaking mid/high 60's @ 4.5Ghz - 1.23v.
Stress testing at 1.24v is high 70's. Never gets to 80

No need for backplate. (I'll add this info in my sig)

Sound! A mate of mine asked about a decent cheap cooler for is lads machine and that sounds like it would do the job. Will save messing about removing the motherboard and having to fit a backplate.

Iv been a crossfire user for quite a few years now and it causes me nothing but stress most of the time lol.
There just seems to be too many issues and new games not getting profiles or just not compatable with crossfire.
It always seems to be a big selling point at conferences when there showing off these cards but a huge game like Star Wars battlefront that has been out for ages now still doesn't work on crossfire. The new Fallout works better and feels smoother on one card for me. Batman Arkham Knight hardly works on crossfire.

Its just a very poor Thing and i wish it were as easy as just booting up any game and it works perfectly using the power from both cards but unfortunatly its more trouble than its worth half the time and one card just sits there doing nothing.
Witcher 3 works good in crossfire now but at release it took ages for a decent working profile that wasn't buggy or causing flickering all over. By the time a a good improved profile was released i had finished the game lol as im sure many others had.

In the age of 3440x1440 and 4K you need that second card to work more than even but it feels like its 50/50 with new games if its going to work properly or not.
