The AMD Driver Thread

Woah Woah Woah, what have I missed!? Last thing I heard. DX12 was massively favouring AMD and everything looked good for AMD. Now people saying you need to buy Nvidia for dx12. I can't figure out why? What the hell has happened lol.

Nothing changed at all, AMD GPU's still have better Async Compute, until Pascal hits, we won't know if they've improved it or not.

^^

And that is exactly why nvidia get away with **** like this :p

I would like to go nvidia but I refuse to support their practices (especially if they don't add and announce support for adaptive sync with their next GPU's), same way I refuse to buy apple products. If/when AMD go under, I think that will be the final nail in the coffin for me and I really believe it will be the beginning of the end for PC gaming overall.

So where would that leave you if you rule companies out based on business practices? Can't get an XBOX, cuz Microsoft. From what I understand the only company worse than Microsoft for business practices is Google.
So you have to rule out a Windows PC (which you'd have to do now let alone then), XBOX or any Android gaming device. You've already ruled out Apple.
So that leaves what? Sony Playstation? Can't see Sony being squeaky clean.

How do you feel about the Nintendo Wii?

Man.. AMD really dropped the ball on this ROTTR driver or Green team just one upped us by getting their driver our just in time. I'm seeing a ton of sites drop benchmarks and it looks so bad with a 290x / 390 series getting beat on average by a 780 / ti at 1080p. Pleeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase AMD drop a surprise driver like.. right now :D

Digital Foundry just put out their video comparing the GTX 970 and R9 390, and found that they offered pretty similar performance overall. In fact, over the course of their testing, the 970 averaged 47.5fps and the 390 managed 48.7.

It seems that the 970 beats the 390 in certain areas, whilst the 390 pulls ahead in others, with up to a 10fps average difference either way. I wouldn't be surprised if these benchmarks saying it's a disaster on AMD cards are being performed in areas that favour the Nvidia ones. Not necessarily on purpose of course.

Purely guesswork by me but,
Why is there no TR driver? Could it be because they haven't had the chance to tweak it for the late extra's Nvidia have added.
It's a bit of a cheek on Crystal Dynamics for allowing it so late in the day but based on there greed based attitude and how Nvidia tend to offer such incentives when it allows them such opportunities it's not really a surprise.

I wouldn't blame Crystal Dynamics for anything. They didn't even do the PC port, Nixxes did. Any decision about deals with Nvidia would have been made by Square Enix. I imagine they were happy to take Nvidia's money because they're trying to salvage what they can from this whole debacle. The Microsoft exclusivity deal was an absolute disaster and killed sales stone dead compared to the original (which they weren't even happy about to begin with), so they'll be trying to wring every last penny out of the PC and PS4 versions.

Of course no company is squeaky clean, I never said that google, microsoft or AMD are.... but you can draw the line with certain companies when it comes to certain areas and to me AMD is the lesser of 2 evils for the GPU division.

That was what I was basing my point on, They complained about the sales of the last not being good enough,
Yet they then went an did something so stupid as an exclusivity deal to get a quick buck in the pocket,
As great as the game reboot series is (and I think it's brilliant) the brains behind the business side of it (who-ever they are) are complete an utter morons.

I don't disagree on that point. Square Enix's incompetence and greed knows no bounds.

If the performance for the AMD cards is as shown in the German/polish sites then it' a no buy from me. Companies who sell out and do this cr*p for money don't deserve to be successful. It's a shame since I thought the Tombraider reboot was a pretty good game.

Sorry, I thought you said if/when AMD go under, meaning there wouldn't be an AMD option.

AMD reps no where to be seen what a surprise, every time this happens they go awol, the game is out in 4hours and not a carrot of info regarding the new drivers.

^^

Essentially, any dx 12 title that will have ASC support will quickly be bought/sponsored by nvidia and then they will "advise" what is best for performance on only their GPU's.... Now I understand why all of a sudden tomb raider became a gameworks title in the last few months. Remember kids, money conquers all.

Thats the issue with nvidia business practice.
you as a PC gamer get screwed all the time.
