The AMD Driver Thread

It's a shame AMD don't get there dung together and make sure they have drivers out in time for the game reviews to be done.
It's no good getting any sort of boost/improvement after everyone's watched the reviews which were not on the right drivers.

They need to be getting as much good free promotion as possible.
They need to take the fight to Nvidia and show people a viable option that does not abuse the customer base.

Its the other way around i think...benchmarking a game before release is stupid.
Just like this, the PureHair is bugged on NV hardware but it is fixed in the final release. Now its not day1 drivers or day0 drivers but day -10 drivers? WTF?

We have to remember that AMD is competing against a company that earns billions of dollars more each year. I'm sure that if they had access to this kind of money we'd see drivers released before the official benchmarks of a game are done, unfortunately they don't and so we have to wait a while longer.

NVIDIA have a monopoly on the GPU business and their trump card that will ensure success in the next generations of GPU's is Gameworks.

No matter how fast Polaris is, it doesn't matter, as NVIDIA can tune gameworks to exploit Polaris's weaknesses and highlight Pascal's strengths.

They can also force game developers to not include any technology that isn't present on a hardware level on Pascal. For example Async compute for the recent Tomb Raider game - it's there on consoles, but surprise surprise, it's not there on the PC version, I wonder why!

It's for the above reasons that I highly suspect I'll be forced to buy a Pascal GPU this year, simply due to the overwhelming power of this monopoly.

I'd say it's a good marketing move.

If Polaris edges the competition or it's a neck and neck situation I will go RTG regardless of the stunts that Nvidia do or do not pull. If we all accept this kind of monopolistic behaviour then we have ALL lost. :(

Why does AMD need to release a new driver when a new game is released?

Because that is what Nvidia have been doing for quite a while and it has now become the norm as it were. These gameday releases are optimised for the big games that are released and sometimes they put a few fixes in too.

Well done to Mr Koduri at AMD, as it does seem that a driver is imminent. So the gloves are off....;)

It's the little important things like this that matter to the users and the fact that they seem to be addressing them one at a time. Good things ahead I hope.
:)

Same. A few FPS here and there won't matter.

I think its about time AMD done a Nvidia, and just released their game drivers before the games are out, instead of waiting till they are, as it'll stop all the whinging, and they should also give them to the reviewers, for the reviews of said games, to stop themselves looking crap in them, and destroyed off Nvidia.

Better optimisations for the game, and of course Xfire support profiles. NVIDIA has been getting it all out just before or on release in an attempt to get the best performance possible for their users.

AMD really need to do the same to compete, especially for their Xfire users, and so everyone can get the best possible performance.

Nvidia comes out with rls drivers but after that it's usually all down hill. Fallout 4 latest patch is just the latest example.

I can't comment on any Fallout games, but in the Witcher 3 it's been nothing but a delight with drivers improving performance, and even so far in Tomb Raider the older Kepler cards have been doing very well.

Their stability was a mess for production for a while though. Had to put out a good few hot fixes related to Adobe software.

It does look like we are going to get a gameday release for this one, so that's at least an A for effort for Mr K. and AMD/RTG.

Sorry I don't do crossfire so I missed that bit out. :p

Yeah, I have read all the fuss that has been created by some of these gameday drivers on the Nvidia driver thread. So it's not all roses and green grass over there either, no matter what they will try and make you believe.

If it has an Xfire profile, it'll be happy days! I really hope they get it allout today and it's a start of AMD doing this more and more.

Oh gawd yes. I've ranted there too many times. I shudder to think they break the drivers for Adobe production software again :/ Those Driver Kernel failures and Blackscreens when trying to do work.

Guys, you do realise AMD is bleeding money and the game is under nvidia's umbrella? From what we heard about the game from its devs it is clear as day that nvidia had a commanding influence on PC port. So it is highly likely that AMD did not have much of the access to the code. The division is again similar situation.
