The AMD Driver Thread

Pitchforks ready tony? :D

31 fps with a single 290 in tombrraider
31 fps with crossfire enabled.

Please surprise me and for once bring out a crossfire profile on release day lol

used to it mate, it's one endless disappointment with AMD these days. I know I go on, but it's just so disappointing time and time again. I'll be selling up 2 390's and a freesync screen when Pascal arrives, AMD are dead, they do nothing to give me any confidence in their products or drivers any more.

Tony it's not all plain sailing for sli on tomb raider either going by steam forum.

Am very disappointed in amd here though release day and driver for tomb raider isn't here. Am not sure how much a driver will change for single GPU though. Seeing comparison video of 970 vs 390 and they was neck and neck at 1080p max settings..

SE are recommending we install 16.1.1 so I might not play much till this drops.

This is so true, you spend hundreds of pounds on a product and the support is shocking, gonna run my 290 until Pascal then that's it:(

Terrible isnt it, Some of us still cant run overclocks 24/7 on any crimson driver either as we just get black screens during log in. The crimson drivers/overdrive are holding onto the increased clocks but not extra voltage so when we log in the clocks go up but the 3rd party software we use to apply voltage cant kick in in time.

yes because Nvidia drivers on win 10 have been so much better than AMD's; come on guys take alook at settings; adjust; if we look at 390vs 970.....390 is head in the end by a frame; so the 16.1s aren't that bad.

Tony reports with sli its also a stuttering mess; some saying its fixed by rolling back. so I wouldn't say day release driver isn't the end all from Nvidia; we should see new driver drop soon.....unfortunately in the UK most likely have to wait until later tonight or early; early tomorrow morning as it will be release like 5 pm pac time

when you installed crimson did you install it as admin? right click; install as admin? once the new drivers drop I'm going to try that as crimson hasn't really worked well on my system. but the 15.12.1s have....

It's not just the one game though Shanks mate, I've lost confidence in them completely. I'm a gamer at the end of the day, I've invested over a thousand pounds in this AMD setup, they are not delivering on AMD crossfire anymore. They are not getting out decent drivers, they are always late to the table. Lets face it Fury/FuryX/Nano was a terrible release, the way Nvida are gimping games etc it's just all leaving a worrying taste in my mouth.

I honestly spend more time these days looking at my OSD, or forcing clock speed with other programs to stop them fluctuating, or trying to find an alternative crossfire profile for games to give me half decent scaling. It's just getting to much mate. Going to go one beast of a card next time, wont be going multi gpu ever again at this rate, the hassle and distinct lack of love for multi gpu setups from both camps, not just AMD just isn't worth it anymore. It's just one big marketing lie from both camps. So much power in my system, very few games actually utilise the full power anymore, this wasn't the case 6 months ago.

Understand mate.. End of the day you should do what ever you think is right.
I'll be perfectly honest here my gaming enjoyment went much higher when I stopped using crossfire.
While I don't get the higher frame rates I used too when a game uses crossfire I found that Freesync now fills in that gab.

Is the new driver (apart from the CF profile) so crucial to run the game?

The 390X is 5FPS behind the 980, the 290X 4FPS behind the 970.

What is the terrible problem we need to burn down the AMD HQ? Yes possibly they will be ahead of the NV cards with the new driver, but they are almost at their usual places.
Only guys who can complain are the Fury owners i think.

Again i think its stupid to benchmark a game with a beta game rev, and before the release. First there were day 1 patches, then day 0 patches, now we need the drivers before the games, to not miss that final 3FPS the first second we fire up the game?

because I dont run 1080p and I don't like having a card doing naff all in my system. it ain't going to be much fun running Tomb Raider or The Division on 1 card at 1440p.

What surprises me so far from results I have seen is just how far the 980ti is compared to other GPUs. Sure the 980ti is faster than its brother 980 but is it really 23fps faster?

Then we look at the FuryX clearly they is something wrong with the driver? a 980 isn't faster than a FuryX

It runs really nice m8, even on one card at 1440p im getting 50+ fps most of the time and it feels smooth all of the time. I wish i could have some MSAA but with just fxaa it still looks really nice, im enjoying it, havent played a tomb raider since the original one. Ive only played it for less than an hour but if i couldnt see the FPS meter on teh screen i wouldnt even have noticed it aint crossfire ready as it plays real nice. I thought i would just give it a quick FPS test but im into it now and losing track of time :).

How are you getting 50+ fps at 1440 when other benchmarks don't even show 50fps being hit at 1080. I take it you've dropped a few settings down?

I watched the digital foundry comparison between 970 and 390, frames were down in the 30's quite a lot, and that was only at 1080

On Fallout 4 even SLI isn't working. Or else how do you explain a single FuryX beating the crap out of SLI 980Tis?
